My Col/Nic boa is about three and a half feet now and has, so far, retained her bad temperament. The other day I was holding her because she seemed to be in a good mood (ate three days prior and shed four days prior). Anyhow, I was wrong, I had been holding her for maybe ten minutes, and without warning (as far as I could tell) she struck. When she struck, her nose hit me right above the inside of my right eye brow. It was so fast I could barely blink in time. I am extremely thankful she didn’t get ahold. Needless to say she lost a little trust on that one.

Wow I’m sorry to hear about that. I was sold a per nic type II anery before I new much about boas, and that snake never stopped stricking.

I can’t see mine stopping any time soon, but if worst comes to worst she may be a high maintenance display rather than a "pet".

That’s where I’m going to be at this rate in another foot or two.

What happened to yours, did he die, or did you get rid of him?

I had to get rid of him. For one when we bought him we were under the assumption that he was columbian. When I started looking into it, I figured out what he was and that he couldn’t be breed with my columbians. Second of all he was way to mean for me to handle. I’m very new at the snake thing, so I wasn’t sure how to handle an aggressive snake. He would strike at us when we walked by his cage. But I sold him to some one that already had a female anery type two, and she wanted to prove her.

My male is the same way. I wont take him out without my husband being there now that he has hit just over 5 feet and is filling out. He tagged me once, and has been hissing a bit- and striking at the glass. Usually he behaves more calmly around my hubby. I handle him once a week, but yeesh, it can be a bit nerve-racking. Ha! Im sticking with it though, and hoping he outgrows it. Then again, Ive grown up with boas. Id like them to be calm enough to trust around kids (SUPERVISED with the adults holding the snake) but I wouldnt trust him.

The female is docile as ever though. Go figure.

I figure I am just going to bear with it and hope she out grows it, but it isn’t easy to make yourself handle them when you’re waiting for them to finally get a hold of you. I suppose I will have to make myself take her out a couple times a week if she is ever going to calm down, and I’d rather try and calm her down at 40" than 90".

Yep that is true! Have you ever had a mean pure columbian boa?
