Belly Heat
Alright, i posted a question earlier about the size of my boa cage.. now i need to know about belly heat. it’s going to have a plywood subfloor with either a thin layer of thin set, or i might just put down some linoleum. Don’t know exactly yet. then some kind of substrate over that. I was thinking of carpet tiles. that way i can just pull them up and clean them if he defecates on them. but i don’t know if carpet is ok to use with snakes.. just an idea. anyway, i want to use some kind of floor heat, and then use either a light or radiant heat panel on the hot side of the tank for additional day time/hot spot heat. Any suggestions. I looked into under floor heating systems (like you would use under tile for a bathroom) but i’m not an electrician, and the thermostats don’t come with traditional 120V plugs for outlets (have to be wired into a junction box) so that’s not going to work.. need suggestions.

Belly Heat If you use radient heat, you shouldnt need UTH as well unless your panel is not large enough. The radient heat panel should warm the tank...unless its a really tall one.
Fake grass is superior to carpet tiles, more easily cleaned. Id recommend having two cut to fit the floor of your enclosure so you can put the clean/dry one in and not have to wait to replace it while the other is disinfected and dried. Plus theres much nicer stuff than AstroTurf(Tm) used to be. Id still do the linoleum under it to keep the urates and any water from rotting the wood below.

Belly Heat Yeah, that was the plan with the linoleum. Although, if I put down a layer of thin set, that will protect the wood as well, but linoleum is easy to disinfect and wipe down. The idea with the belly heat is so I don’t have to have the radiant heat panel on all the time, and the under the floor heat will ensure the entire cage floor is the same temp, 75-80, then i can use radiant heat panel to add extra heat to hot side of cage.. i don’t know, but i gotta figure it out before i build. can’t go with just radiant heat panel and then find out it’s not enough to heat entire cage after its too late to put in under cage heater. i’ve never used radiant heat panels, do they work well enough to get one side of cage close to 90 and get the rest of the cage in the low 80s?

Belly Heat Also, if I go with only one heat source (Radiant Heat Emitter) than I get no variation with night and day temps
