 Big het female

One of my larger female BCI’s. She’s an 05’ and het for albino. She’s got a definate mean streak in her, but has gotten a little better lately. Thank God. She’s about 8.5’ and around 35+ lbs. She feeds generally on 3-4 lb. rabbits or 2-3 jumbo rats, which don’t even put a dent in her. Well thanks for looking.

She is BEAUTIFUL!!!
Thank you for sharing with us. It makes me more aware of how handling more often is important. Going to show this to the hubby to make sure he realizes the importance of holding them more often so they arent skittish when we do take them out to clean enclosures etc!

Thanks. I’ve only had this girl a couple months and I don’t think her attitude was from a lack of handling before I got her, she’s just one of those that don’t have the best personality. Unfortunatley some just don’t "tame" down even with frequent handeling. But I will say she is a little better at best since I have had her. Take it easy...

Good god she’s big. How do you deal with having such a large animal whose moods are unpredictable? I’m a new owner of a boa and she’s not that big but when she strikes I’m not sure how to handle it or what to do. And I feel like my nervousness just makes her more defensive/agressive...

Bala, I know what you mean with that fear. But...the more they are handled young and regularly, the less likely you will be to be tagged as they get older.

Even as a full grown adult, the bites really aren’t that bad. (I was bitten as a 9 year old and survived without much incident. The subsequent grounding from the snakes for a month for going into their tank without an adult hurt worse, as was the verbal lashing my stepdad got from my mom for not having a lock on the cage. Haha!) The shock is mostly the actual strike. They tend to bleed a bit, mostly because hands have a lot of small cappilaries (as does your head, which anyone whose ever shaved can tell you!) A wash with soap and water is usually all thats needed. They heal up within a day or two.
