To feed or not to feed, that is the question I have a two week old Red-Tailed Boa and have offered it a frozen prekilled fuzzy mouse, thawed out of course. He seems to be interested but is not actually eating it just smelling it. I even cut the head of the mouse a bit to help with the smell. Should I keep offering it every few days, wait until it’s first shed (I’ve heard that sometimes babies wont eat til after their first shed and some times before), or try feeding it a live hopper? I want him to be able to eat frozen prekilled and dont want to start down the wrong path by feeding it a live one? What do you think I should do? J

To feed or not to feed, that is the question Two things, young snakes live off enternal yolk that’s left, thus why some go through the first shed without eating. As far as live feeding its bit a problem with mice or hopper-fuzzy rats, but as you move to larger it’s best to feed prekilled or f/k. So it will be perfectly fine to feed it live the first few times then move onto f/k or p/k. Boas switch from live to dead very easily so no worries about starting down the wrong path.James~
