ASPEN FLAKES DID NOT AGREE WITH MY BABY! I am going to switch back to the newspaper for the time being. Koa’s respiratory infection started to come back ever since I switched to the Aspen flakes. Now she has to have antibiotic injections again!! I don’t understand why, From what I have read & been told, Aspen works great for other people. Maybe because she was not 100% out of the woods she may have been more vulnerable to the flakes(the dust in the flakes)? I don’t know. Plus, Koa WAS good at hiding her poos in the substrate. I literally had to dig around through it to find them! I guess they are not for everbody.

Sensitivities. Unfortunately, animals DO have allergies and sensitivities on occains, just like humans. For all we know, poor koa could be sensitive to: Dust. drying agents in the wood. anti-pest agents in the wood. Aspen. dead mold or fungi in the wood. I have had rats who sid not digest certain foods well, while their neighbors did just fine on the same comestibles. I’m sorry to hear your snake is having problems. Once in awhiole, one or two of my pythons will get slightly wheesey. I ususally find that a scrubdown of their enclosure does them good( as well as vaccuming- again, go figure!....

Sensitivities. Thanks everyone for the support! Her infection is not anything like the one she had when I first got her, but there is some "Foamy discharge" on occasion, and once in a while she will "blow a bubble!" (just like bubble gum)She never lost the wheezing 100% from the last one. It was not constant, but occasional. Now it is a little more often.

Sensitivities. I would seriously look into an indoor outdoor carpet. I have used it since Boots was a foot long and have never had problems. I keep two cut and bound pieces, so I can lift one, wipe the cage, and put the clean dry one in. There is also a carped made specifically for reptiles, but the name escapes me at the moment. I dont really see much of a difference between it and soft in/out carpet. (other than price of course) Hope your pet gets better.

Sensitivities. Thanks. Actually I bought some "cage carpet" when I first bought Koa, but I never got around to sewing it to fit her tank size. lol, so there it sits, in storage. I will definately look into something else, I got spoiled with the looks of the Aspen, so going back to newspper is just temporary.

Sensitivities. I got my in/out carpet from a hardware store, you can simply use a razor knife to cut it to size. I bought the black carpet and I use Flat Black duct tape to keep the edges from fraying and being swallowed or choking. The black in the cage really shows off the colors and patterns on my babies.

Sensitivities. Cool, I bet it does! That gave me an idea. A person could get several different ones, in different colors, and be decorative for the current season!Green or Red = Christmas Red = Valentine’s Day Green = St. Patty’s Day Red/White/Blue = 4th of July etc! Sounds like fun stuff! Thank you for the idea!

Sensitivities. I good substrate i posted and now is my favorite is the easter basket paper. It does not bleed in water. And comes in many colors. Very easy to clean and work with and cheap. Just an idea tho so far i luv it and my animals do too.

Hey, dude, these are really good ideas, and I can’t figure out which one to use. I’ll try a lot of them out. Well, I also tried ASPEN for my COLUMBIAN, and it didn’t work out too well. I also tried the newspaper mulch stuff, that didn’t seam to work, because I can’t find the poop. Right now I’m using INDOOR/OUTDOOR carpet, and I put stuff on top, so it could burrow if it chooses. Oh, is the EASTER stuff, the stuff dat you put into BASKETS? THANKS... JT

ASPEN FLAKES DID NOT AGREE WITH MY BABY! get koa off the newspaper ive seen snakes with a resp- that were being kept on similar bedding it can become caked in her mouth (especially if your shredding it finely) the best bedding to use is cypress mulch its non toxic and it holds the humidity you need. plus its way better looking than newspaper
