 New owner of new pets

Hello There to anyone who might give me some advice on when and how to breed the two red tails I just bought. They are around five feet in length. I just read a posting stating they should not ever be housed together. As far as I know these two were raised with one another. Does this mean thay will not ever be compatiable to breed/

No...
Its just that when they’re housed together year round they’re less inclined to breed...
Always keep them apart until you want to breed them...

Thanks for the response. I will be building a new enclosure for one of them. Do you know if they breed in the fall/ I thought that was when the female would be ovulating. Thanks for the info

Actually, you can start introducing your males to the females in mid to late December and continue through March. However, Boas such as the Rosy tends to breed after Spring is here... Plus there are things you can do to "trick" them into thinking it is breeding season. Might I suggest you buy the book Barron’s Boas.. A Complete Pet Owners Manual. It disccusses in detail what I just touched on.. beginning with explaining brumation... introducing the snakes... tips to induce breeding... indications of fertility..etc.etc. This book has explained so much for me.
I was probably the one you read a post from about not housing ANY snakes together. The other person was right.. if they are housed together... which is a complete no no under ANY circumstances (think about it.. if you house them separately.. and one snake gets sick.. you just have one sick snake.. if together.. you have to treat 2 snakes..you should price the cost of a herp vet.)... anyway, if housed together it is harder to get them to mate.. they are used to each other and seem disinterested... (this info came from the above mentioned book.. pages 44-50)
