Ok i just got 2 free red tail boas male and a female. Female is about 6 1/2 feet and the male is about 4 1/2 feet....The previous owner has been caging them together so i dont know if that cases a problem for future breeding. I want to breed them i dont know if i should keep them together or separate them in hopes of when i do bring them together they will breed. help...

Seperate is usually better. If you house them together you run several risks. Fighting, canniblism, not being able to tell which one has deficated or regurged, etc. I don’t know about the breeding aspect of it but it is always better to be safe then sorry. And yes the previous owner my have housed them together but that doesn’t make it right or safe. I hope that helped at least a little.

From what I’ve read... as far as breeding.. it is better to keep them separate until you introduce them. Then you should introduce the female into the male’s enclosure... some say it makes a difference some say it does not..
however, I do agree with housing them separately on a regular basis. It’s a lot cheaper to pay one vet bill than 2. It’s alot easier for record keeping purposes..as far as which one ate.. which one shed... which one passed urates... unless you can watch them 24 hours a day.. these questions will have to go unanswered if housed together.
I have the Barron’s Boa book and it has answered all of my own questions and a lot of questions that have been asked by others. if you can find it... I recommend it.. the book is awesome.
