 Question about moss

I was wondering about what type of moss is best to use for BRB? Can you use Spanish moss? Doesn’t the moss mold after a while, because I’ve used it before in the past with some turtles I had and it grows mold on it real quick. Is their something you can do to prevent it? I was using Spanish moss for my turtles, so I wasn’t sure if I used a different type if that would help with BRB.

 Question about moss

I’ve never used moss.

Why do you want to use it?

 Question about moss

Well David Colling from rainbows-r-us uses moss hides, so thats ware I heard about them. I probably wont use them though because of the mold issues.

 Question about moss

You don’t need them. It’s an added cost...an added mess...and can add potential health issues if it grows mold.

As long as your humidity is 90% for a new baby and you have a nice big water bowl...You won’t have any problems.

Let me know if you need any other help.

 Question about moss

I use beak moss and my rainbow loves his humid box and every where I’ve seen with care sheets on Brb’s says to give them a humid box do what you like I’m no expert but I kept my brb’s tank at about 85-90 and my snake is chillin in his humid box about 70 percent of the time that I check.

 Question about moss

what about using that eco earth block bedding or bed a beast, that works well as well, but you have to change it every so often.

 Question about moss

Whatever you use, damp does not equal wet.

I use cypress as the base layer and an untreated moss from lowe’s orchid department as a top layer. The base gets a quick swipe with the kitchen sink sprayer, the moss goes on top and another quick swipe, then the lid goes on.

Spanish moss is like pine straw, its useless for this application. The chain pet stores usually have moss from flukers or whoever.
