My columbian got bit by her food!
yesterday when I fed my crb, the gerbil bit her. it got a good chunk out of her before I could stop it (it all happened so fast) i’ve had a problem from day 1 with this snake eating, and just so everyone knows, i’ve tried feeding f/t, but there’s no way she’ll take it. anyways, my question is, how concerned should i be? it took a bit of a chunk out of her...the hole is probably about 3mm wide, and 1mm deep, from what i could tell...should i put peroxide or something on it, or take her to a vet, or just wait and see how it heals? i’m very worried about her...she’s my baby... |

I’ll second the neosporin suggestion. If its in a location that’s likely to get dirty, take her out twice a day and rinse the wound out with a nolvasan wash or ph neutral soap diluted with water. Phisoderm is a good option if you cant get nolvasan. With good wound care, you shouldnt need a vet, but at the very first sign of infection or lack of healing, you should take her in. |

And I would pre-kill the prey! But my question is... Why the Hell are you feeding Gerbils to a CRB??? |

Since you’ve not realized the joys of feeding live, you’ll probably want to retrain your snake to eat fresh killed or thawed before its next dinner kills it. You may have some work ahead of you since you’ve spoiled it with life and gotten it onto a peculiar diet for a BRB. There are plenty of words of advice for teaching them to eat f/t among the various forums for you to go search out. |

Show me a "Gerbil" indiginous to "Columbia" and I’ll shut-up about this! Common sense would tell you this person was full of craap!!! ==================== Anyhoo...Feed a mouse (Live) to your snake based on the girth of your snake!!! There isn’t a scientific study or document on the planet that would back up that mice or rats are any less nutritious than a gerbil. Sorry...but that idiot "Hoodwinked" you! |
