Thanks, Jason. You should post some pics soon! The forum is a little quiet these days huh?

-Snakebreeder, the EBV referred to her as a "garnet," but I think that was simply descriptive. She’s just a normal BRB.

How much do rainbow boas usually cost? They are such beautiful snakes and I would like to get one.

I bought mine in Derby, KS (just outside Wichita) from a place called Tails N’ Scales (http://www.tailsnscales.com/)

She cost me $199.00 They’re alot more expensive than your ball pythons or corn snakes, but they are beautiful.

Melanie0706, I got her from the East Bay Vivarium as baby, for $175. They really are beautiful snakes... and are more commonly kept these days.

2tech, thanks :) She is almost 5!! And I’ve had her from the start... a little hard to believe now!

Way back when...

I’m actually very interested in hearing about some of your long term experiences with your B.R.B. What was the basic attitude of your B.R.B.? Was it a nippy little girl? If so, Has she become more friendly? Have her feeding habits changed any? Does she eat less? any other observations about your beautiful Bella would be much appreciated. THANKS!

2tech, Bella has been very ’consistent’ all along. As a baby, she was not nippy. Actually, she has never struck at me. When I was choosing her, she definitely presented as the most calm, yet curious BRB of the bunch. And thats how shes stayed... very sweet, chill temperament. I honestly love her, she is definitley my girl :) That said, shes always been ’friendly,’ but knows the difference when someone other than me is handling her; although, even then, shes just cautious I suppose. Her feeding habits have also stayed pretty consistent to that of what is expected, in that, I feed her every every other week now, instead of once a week. Other observations... well, I dont have much to compare, as shes my only snake! But, it definitely seems BRB’s are one of a kind. Not only because they are so uniquely beautiful, but because they seem to have a distinct personality. Congrats on your little one by the way :) My best advice, besides making sure husbandry/temps are correct, just provide attention and care in a safe, comfortable environment, and you should have a tame, trusting, happy BRB :)

It’s hard for me to keep the temp perfect but it’s definitely good. I didn’t get the chance to pick my B.R.B....The closest place to get snakes around here is 150 miles away...literally...They only had one in stock so I took what I could get....she’s always been super cautious and pretty dang nippy...I wasn’t happy about that at all but they have a no refund policy so I’m kinda in a tough spot...I love my little B.R.B. I just wish she wasn’t so apprehensive all the time =-( I’m hoping she will get better with time. I handle her, but only a few times a week tops...maybe a couple times a week and not for very long...I guess I just got used to having a Ball Python. He loves to come out and get attention!

Although my experience wasn’t with a nippy BRB, I often hear that behavior is very common, and that they calm down with handling and age. I’m sure she’ll be fine. By nature, BRB’s really aren’t aggressive snakes... Just keep handling her on a regular basis. Maybe try 2x per week for longer periods of time... I think pulling them out is disruptive as it is, but if you put them right back in, they don’t have enough time to adjust to the change in environment or get comfortable outside the enclosure. Also, when she bites, I wouldn’t put her down, it will only reinforce the behavior. Hope that helps some :)

Im going to be inheriting a Brb who is 10 years old, also from the East Bay Vivarium. I remember when he was small ( I was there at the purchase, getting my fiance a kingsnake and his friend found Terramin and couldnt leave without him. We all know how that is.) he had really great contrast. I haven’t seen him in years. Ill post pics when I get him.
