When picking out a rainbow boa...

Are there any specific traits to look out for that are more desirable or that indicate a "higher quality" animal?

For example blushing, reduced patterns, bright/dark golden coloring, etc. Are traits people like in ball pythons. Is there an equivalent list for rainbow boas?

In the end I’ll definitely be purchasing the animal that is most appealing to me but I would like to be more aware of what to look out for.

Thanks,
Dennis

Wish I could help you out here in this one, I got my Ajax off CL. His owner bought him as a female, turned out to be male and didn’t want him. I didn’t have much of a choice (zero) and he was in shed when I got him - not attractive at all!

As you mentioned though, I would just go with the one that seems most appealing to you. Where do you plan to get one - reptile show, store, breeder? I’m sure someone at either of those places would be able to help you find a special animal. Good luck! :)

I’ll be picking one up at the local reptile show. I’m sure the breeders can give me great info but their input may be a bit biased. : ) And thanks for the good luck wishes!

If you have any pics of Ajax I’d love to see him! Have his colors/iridescence changed much as he’s aged?

I have only had Ajax since November and he was already a year old or so. He’s not changed much (that I can tell) in the few short months I have had him.

These pictures are a week or two after I got him, he’s a bit bigger now.

I will get some more updated pictures tomorrow. Oh wait, he’s in shed again...I’ll get some anyway.

(The flash does make him look a bit brighter in those pictures than he really is.)

I just pick which one i think looks the best. When i get a reptile i usually dont plan to sell it so i dont care whats worth the most. If you find a cool pattern or color that you notice is different thats what i usually pick. I like stuff thats different but not too extreme
