 NEW BRB!!!!!!

Baby snakes are more nippy than more mature snakes (especially ones that are used to handling).

Honestly...I would be very concerned if my baby BRB ’wasn’t" nippy!

The only way to lessen the striking behavior is calm, gentle handling. I personally would recommend getting a regular wire clothes-hanger and bend it into a mini "snake-hook". Pick him up with the snake hook and then transfer the BRB to your other hand. Once in your hand...It won’t bite you.

I hope this helps?!

 NEW BRB!!!!!!

Congrats on the new BRB. Babies are normally nippy, so don’t worry...you have a perfectly normal snake. As BSS mentioned, calm handling will help to calm the baby down. But do expect to get bitten, it just comes with the territory. Thankfully, it won’t hurt when you do get tagged, so no worries there. I wouldn’t hold him/her too much, as you don’t want it to be stressed a lot. But a couple times a week would be just fine.

Good luck with the baby. Any pics? I love baby BRB pics.

I agree...calm gentle handling is the way to go, and don’t overdo it. Good luck!

What the hell is that?,2 b-b 4-2 get?.Try using proper grammar, you might get some responses here but a lot of places you will get sarcasm and little responses.Using crap like that sure will not get you a job later in life.

These young kids these days speaking Text. *winks*
Itll help us old folks * gets out cane and shakes it* if you write it out. Ha!

I found with my baby boa constrictors that if I put a facecloth over their head, then picked them up by the middle of their bodys where most of the weight is, they were fine being handled once they were out of their enclosure.

If you use the coathanger snake hook, might be good to wrap some tape around the sharp end to prevent injuries. I have a wooden dowel I use to genly touch the snakes and move their heads gently back while I reach in with the other hand and pick them up when its close to feeding day and they are in hunting mode right after. I havent gotten bit...yet. It can and probably one day will happen. Just pour some peroxide or betadine over the bite after washing with soap and water and you should be good to go. Its rather like being stuck with a small set of pins. Hurts way less than a tatoo.

Sharp end?

What sharp end??

What kind of lethal clothes-hangers are you use to? There’s nothing sharp on any of the ones I’ve ever seen. But then...I’m not from California! Maybe the cloths-hangers in California are classified as edged-weapons?!

LOL

The wire at the end of the hook and the end where its twisted about can be sharp. I used to use old wire coat hangers to make cat toys and got scratched a couple times. I figured if I can get a small cut, someone not used to using a hook could possibly injure a snake. ;oP

I’m surprised they haven’t made a law that you cant carry concealed coat hangers yet. Its probably just been put on the back burner because of the budget crisis. Don’t you go giving the state government ideas now...*eyes BSS warily, whilst brandishing her wand to keep the bureaucrats at bay*
