 Uma the Rescue Got To Hang Out Outside Today!!!!!

I had a few friends over for pie and coffee today and they all wanted to see the new snake. So we all hung out outside and Uma got to roam around in the sunhsine. I think she liked it. She was such a good little girl. It looks like she might be going into the blue phaze any day now. I can’t wait until she is her full weight. LOL Funny my friend Ryan was holding her and he’s like, "OMG she’s so heavy....so solid." And here am thinking, yea, wait until she gains all she needs to gain. LOL She is a big girl.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for asking. Uma did great with the surgery. Although the vet said she will probably lose her left eye and possibly the right.....we noticed the other night that while Chris moved his hand, outside of the tank, that Uma followed it. Left side, the bad eye. Maybe it’s wishful thinking, but the eye looks good and it looks like it’s clearing up. She just went through a shed and has eaten only twice since the surgery. Hopefully she’ll be back to her regular eating. She is still the sweetest thing, although she did bite the neighbor. LOL The antibiotics for the eye infection were oral, in the form of a pill. I took her in to the vet’s for quite a while, then I decided to attempt it myselt. Well I had one neighbor, great friend Bud hold her body...while I opened her mouth....then Tina, another neighbor, put the pill in her mouth. It went great, until we noticed that Uma had calmly gone under the couch. I guess she was scared or annoyed, for I handed Bud the front part of Uma while I tried to uncoil her tail from the bottom of the couch. All of a sudden I hear him saying, "It bit me....it bit me." OMG It was so FUNNY. The funniest part when Tina said to Bud, "Don’t worry...you will feel nothing...you will just go to sleep." ROFL

Anyway, Chris finally got home from a long almost month and half away working, and we administered the pill. Here’s a video....

For future reference...

Use a soft rubber spatula like the one pictured below to carefully open a snake’s mouth.

If your snake does bite down on the soft rubber...it’s far less likely to damage it’s teeth as opposed to the hard plastic of your ATM or credit card.

OOH good advice, which I hope Ill never have to use!
And great job with Uma. You guys have really worked hard to make her life sooo much better. Shes been through so much neglect in her history. Im very hopefull that she will make a full recovery! Sounds like you have a pretty awesome vet too.

LOL on the bite. Hope the neighbor wasnt too upset about it all. My female boa just bit me for the first time yesterday. Totally my own fault. She is going into shed, and though Ive handled her before during shed...I had just been setting up "the noodles" ( baby corn snakes- my hubby nicknamed em The Noodles- because they are wiggly and not much bigger than noodles) and I must not have used enough soap, or Lael was PSSy(instead of PMS)...and she was acting a bit more defensive than usual...Got her most of the way out of her enclosure and...ZING SNAP. She went for my face too. Got the corner of my chin and a little bit of my neck, tap and release. I have a small bruise on my neck now. I joked with the hubby about her giving me a "Love bite"

Goes to show ya even fairly experienced snake folks dont pay good enough attention sometimes and get bit. Its not bragging at all. I totally deserved to get bit, and as such am a winner of the ID10T award. I think I will listen to her better next time.

Dragon Lover, she is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL snake. I am envious. :D I want a Rainbow Boa soooooooo bad. It really looks like she’s made quite a come back. You’ve done so well with her, she’s a very lucky girl. :)
