My BRB
He’s pretty skinny. You can see his spine pretty well in some places. He has a lot of patches of stuck shed He has dry patches He has a wound(Rat bite?) on his head. I think I was lied to. They said he’s shy. He doesn’t mind me touching him and I can even stroke his head. He tagged me the other day when I grabbed him really fast(Understandable) They said he was eating F/T. The wound on his head really looks like a rat bite. So yeah, I just thought I’d share. I’m just about done putting the finishing touches on his new enclosure. it’s 4 ft x 4 ft x 4 ft. He’s got organic soil, peat moss mixture for substrate He has a huge tray of water he can probably swim around in. it’s filtered and I’m changing it pretty often It has a waterfall to keep humidity up I have three live plants I’m getting some nice, thick branches from outside(I’m going to spray it with alcohol and let the alcohol evaporate off before putting it in place) I’ve started some moss growing in the bottom. I’ve got a nice, UVA/UVB bulb(I know it’s not required, but I need it for the plants. He has places to hide and be in the dark if he doesn’t like it) I screwed a fan in the side to help ventilate. The fan is hooked up to a dimmer so it doesn’t dry up the humidity. I’ve got a couple ceramic heat bulbs that provide a nice 85 degree warm side(86 actually). Right now he’s in a temporary tank, but he’ll be home soon. So, he should be back in health pretty soon. I’ll take some pics when he’s in his new home. |

How are you going to clean it out monthly? Even in a nice large enclosure like that, the entire bedding should be cleaned out monthly to prevent bacterial build up from the feces and urates. Thats hard on plants which are planted directly. (any live plants should be put in pots, and the top couple inches covered in pebbles which have been boiled or sterilized and rinsed). Im sure it will get far far better care and feeding with you. Watch that bite for signs of infection. Perhaps put some neosporin cream on it. ( Not the pain killer kind. Plain old antibacterial cream) and perhaps while its in the smaller container, add 50% pedialyte to the water for it to drink to get its electrolytes back up. ( Unflavored, clear variety) Rubbing alcohol should do the trick for the branches- but you can also bake them ( Just keep the oven well below 451 Farenheit- thats when wood combusts) for 15-20 minutes. Good luck and hope everything goes fantasticly! |
