I just bought a columbian rainbow boa it is a few months old and about 2 feet long. everytime i go near it in the tank it strikes. i cant even pick it up it bites so much the man at the petstore told me to leave it for about to weeks and then start to handle it since it is a newborn but im beggining to think that will only make matters worse. any advice would be great!

congratulations on your snake, first off the most important thing is humidity humidity humidity! if it is a neonate= new born then i wouldnt hold him either for the first couple weeks let him settle and establish himself with a couple good meals before you begin handling him. it wont get worse. wait till he gets a couple good meals before you start handling him basically. another thing about these guys is they are nippy when they are young but as they start to mature as you handle him it will calm down a lot good luck!= )

Thanks for the info ive been keeping up the humidity as best i can but im finding it hard to keep the humidity up without my room reaching like 80 degrees and its the summer time so as you can imagine its pretty brutal. If i try opening a window or something the humitity drops from like 75 to 55. Right now she is in a 29 gallon aquarium with a screen top but i covered 3/4ths of the top with plastic rap trying to hold the humidity in.I have a rubermaid container roughly the size of the tank but not as tall and it is sort of see through .Do you think i should move her into that container so the humidity can be held better? hope to hear back and thanks again for the advice

If covering with plastic isnt working, then yes, drill some small holes and use the tub if need be. Humidity is crucial for Brbs!

What sort of substrate do you use? I use cocoa hull fiber and keep it slightly moist for my Boa Constrictors. I mist when the bedding starts getting dry, and do a full change once a month to keep the bacteria load down ( and clean up any poops/urates and sheds in between)

Also, make you little guy a moss box by soaking some spaghnem moss in water and putting that inside a hide to make sure it has humidity. Also try putting the heat lamp (if you use one) right over half of the water dish ( make sure the water dish is large enough to have some evaporate)- this will all help keep humidity up.
