 What do mites look like?

Today when I took out my water dish to clean, i notice little white bugs under it. Are those mites?

Sounds like mites. You don’t want any type of bugs in your enclosure. You need to order some Provent A Mite online for about $20. Use it as directed and you will not have to worry about mites again. I’ve only seen the black mites that look like little poppyseeds in the waterdish, but I know there are white ones as well. Then you want to get a fecal float done to be sure your pet doesn’t have internal parasites. Get them all checked. I once saw a couple mites in my ball pythons water dish and I had a fecal done on him, my rtb and as an afterthought figured I’d get my leo gecko checked too - the 2 snakes came up clean even tho I saw one live mite on my rtb and several in my bp’s dish and my leo who I never saw anything, came up loaded with internal parasites. It has been treated with medicine.

 What do mites look like?

Yes, that is exactly what it is. In Reno, my vet charges $20 for one and the results are available within 24 hours.

This will not help you identify them because it is magnified but this is what one looks like

mites are not white. What you have described sounds like something I seen in repti bark that I call woodlice(they are probably not wood lice but they are not snake mites. )

In a water bowl they will look either real dark or red looking. On an animal they will look like a poppy seed moving. Snake Mites are also not connected with any internal parasite that i am aware of.

Wow your lucky. It cost me $40 and i had to call and nag every week for 7 months straight to get my results. And that was UF vet.

I’ve heard about bugs being in that reptibark and those dirt type beddings. Use aspen or newspaper.
