How big can a RTB get in a 40 gallon?

follow my rule with snakes one square foot for every foot of coil where possible i wish u had posted sizes instead of gallons because gallons tell me nothing about the size so look at it this way

1 foot snake-1 by 1 tank
2 foot snake-2 by 1 tank
3 foot snake-3 by 1 tank
4 foot snake-2 by 2 tank
5 foot snake-2.5 by 2 tank
6 foot snake-3 by 2 tank
7 foot snake-3.5 by 2 tank
8 foot snake-4 by 2 tank
9 foot snake-3 by 3 tank/4.5 by 2 tank
10 foot snake-5 by 2 tank
11 foot snake-5.5 by 2 tank
12 foot snake-6 by 2 tank/3 by 4 tank

use the list but try to do it this way 1-3 foot snake kept in a 1x3 tank, 4-6 foot snake 3x2 tank, 7-9 foot snake 4.5x2, 10-12 foot snake 6x2 tank

these are rough ideas bigger wont hurt much and a 4 by 2 tank will suit a male by the end. a 5 by 2 will suit a female usually.

use this guide to work it out

Wow....my cage is deffinantly bigger the the size there for a nine footer. 8f x 4fx 4f, with a 1f box built in the bottom with a hole on top so she can crawl in there and hide.

hehe as i said those numbers are minimum size requirements bigger the better though the tank for my boa is a 4x2x2 he’s male so it works out ok. Interesting that at 9 feet you provide a hide, most people just cover a part of the glass

i looked in my guide and it says that a full grown red tail can live in a cage half its length and three feet wide comfotalbly. personally i shoot for three quarters the length of the snake.

dont mention it, glad i could help. Your tank will be enough untill she reaches 6 feet. Height is not important, they love to climb but they will be perfectly happy without any. So 2 feet high is good i use 18 inch high tanks for all my terrestrial species i.e. my boa’s and my pythons. 3x2 tanks will give him ample room to stretch out and thermo regulate

Well you should handle them but you don’t need to handle them all the time as much as just handle them when you want or feel like it Although you cant neglect them.

Michael
