 Ticks / Mites...

So my Fluffles is sheding, or about to. The noticeable details like gray eyes and paler skin etc.
And this morning I noticed that he was soaking, probably since sometime during the night and he was soaking for quite some time.

I figured it was just because he was shedding, and when he stopped soaking I noticed these small red semi ant looking things, which I figure are Mites or Ticks, there were 5-7 of them in the water dead, and I took him out, put the water bowl and put it in boiling water to steralize it and put Fluffles in a tuberware container with luke warm water and let him soak for a while after carefully checking him out in the bathroom removing any pests under his scales that I could find (which were 4 I found in like 40 minutes of searching) And after soaking for little over an hour I examined him again (nothing was left in the water) and I didn’t notice anything on him.

I put Vaseline (petroleum jelly) over him and let it stay for about 10 minutes, then gently stroked it off with a towel and some toilet paper and then let him soak for a few minutes to get it off a bit more and then I just put him back in the cage.

Im going to see how hes doing tomorrow and soak him again to see if he still has any parasites.

If I notice anything Im going to sterelize the cage with a 5% bleach solution and everything in it.

Anyone ever seen small red like mites before? And any good house hold ways to get them off and to make sure they never come back?

And also, do they get on cats? mice? (im breeding mice) and I have a cat. I wonder if he caught it of some prey item I gave him because he has soaked before and I havent ever noticed anything in the water afterwards.

Thx guys.

Read my posts here about mite treatment just a few down. There is no need to put anything on your snake, bleach or boil anything.Unless you just like lots of extra work.
