Inga’s new cage - FINALLY That’s very nice Deb. I’m curious about how well it holds humidity. Time will tell I’m sure. I can’t help but notice that you got a crystal clear shot of the cage but can’t seem to do the same w/ Inga! Interesting. Glad to see you back.

Inga’s new cage - FINALLY I didn’t take the picture! Maybe that’s why Alex! Also it was not a moving target. I am taking inga with me to the professional photographer to get some shots of her when I do my new photos. The top has the screen for the lights and a piece of wood that you can take off. I’m going to put pond liner on the floor - here in Reno constant misting is necessary no matter what - It cant be worse than the acrylic cage she’s in now and it is big enough for a lifetime cage. It was originally for an iguana - they were willing to "throw in" the iguana - I didn’t take them up on it - she hadn’t had attention for a long time, didn’t like to be held and in my house if you’re a reptile that doesn’t like to be held, you don’t get much attention because I can’t have them running around - I have 2 pitbulls who are very good with Inga and the beardies but I dont’’ think a reptile or lizard just running all over the place whipping its tail would fare well. Another case of lots of attention for 3 months then the kids got sick of taking care of her. Sucks. But the cage is great - needs a slat of wood inside the front because there is a small space that Inga could easily get out of - she’s not the type of girl who tries to escape but she is curious. I love it.

Inga’s new cage - FINALLY Sounds like you have it under control Deb. makes sense about the pictures and I’ll give you that moving target remark. Are you considering more diagonal branches and shelves? Most people will tell you boa’s don’t like to climb and vertical space is wasted but that’s nonsense. You give them appropriate habitat and they will make use of it. Good luck.

Inga’s new cage - FINALLY Yeah - remember razeraze’s cage? This cage couldn’t have been more like my own idea (copied from other’s cages, especially Razer’s). But I want to put longer shelves on the back wall and maybe take out the ones on the side. Then I want to bolt those logs more - they are bolted in but still moveable and I don’t want my girl to fall down! I put her in there for a couple minutes (that’s when I noticed the 1 inch space in the front floor - she headed right for the tree then for the space and would have ended up in the cupboards below. But the way the thing is mounted - its 2 pieces the bottom cabinets and then the top but the shingles go over the cupboards and I can’t open them so I guess I’ll have to not use the storage space or cut the shingles. Anyway I want to put like 3 longer shelves on the back wall so she can have a real good heat gradient - she can bask her head or back on one shelf and cool down on another.
BTW Shermanator craigslist dot org is an online everything site where people sell all kinds of stuff. I searched under reptile and came up with several cages - there’s one I want for $175 that has an oak stand - I’m getting a blue tongue skink. I also got a really nice animal plastics cage awhile ago for $150. it’s 4x3x2 - too low for what I wanted for Inga but great for a tegu or something. Anyway couldn’t pass up the deal - he included the UTH and an extra UTH with it plus it was already put together. I just don’t know how you would put CHE and UVB lighting in one of those animal plastic cages - I love the horizontal opening and the big windows in the front and the locking mechanism but I want Inga to be able to climb =- she uses me for a tree - I lay down with my legs up and she climbs me but she’s getting too big for that now so she has to get her exercise somehow - I’m so excited I found this thing - remember the story about the tweaker my husband hired to build me a cage because the contractor wanted $1100 - well, it ended up costing way more and the cage never got built. The one for $750 was really nice with a plumbing system built in but this was just as good for way less. Shermanator - check craigslist for great deals on furniture, cages, pets sometimes - services, anything you can think of. Hopefully I’ll get some crystal clear shots of Miss inga enjoying her new house as soon as she is situated. Now I have her big acrylic cage and the animal plastics cage, plus the one I’m getting for the bts - I adopted a tiny tiny 3 1/2 inch bearded dragon that was dying at Petco and she’s in a 10 gal. for now and it’s huge for her but soon she’ll need a bigger cage too- Inga’s cage is going to be too big tho. Soooooo maybe another snake? I’m kind of looking into a red tegu if I can find one. They have some cute but very mean little colombian rainbow boas at Petco - they aren’t as pretty as the brazilians and I have to really think - I don’t want to become a hoarder = all my reptiles have ended up coming to me somehow and been perfect for me like they were meant for me so i don’t want to just go out and buy one to fill empty cages. See ya.

Inga’s new cage - FINALLY Rainbows tend to be nippy as babies (Colombians and Brazilians) but they relax over time. I don’t want to be negative but please don’t use the 4x3x2 for a tegu, its way to small. My Savannah monitor is not as big as a red tegu and she is in an 8x4x5 and I feel she could use more space. Just my two cents. There are a lot of better choices for that cage. If you wait i will have baby Venezuelan red tails next year. Full grown at 5.5 to 6 feet. ;).

Inga’s new cage - FINALLY No offense taken Alex. I don’t know alot about tegus and have been looking around on the tegu forum asking some questions mostly about temperment. Pet Supermarket in reno had a golden tegu for sale and I wanted to rescue it and take it home but found out thru the forum that it was not a good choice temperment wise. you know I only want the best for my animals and enclosure must be big enough and comfy for them. So thanks ----are the animal plastics cages basically for snakes? I was thinking ball python ---someone stole Josephine last summer and I wanted to get another one- sub adult for adoption preferably. Maybe that cage would be good for a bp since they like the ground. Andrew - thanks for the advise about the plexi. I’ll do that. Any other suggestions are welcome.
Thanks--Deb
I’ll post some pics of my girl soon - when I can get her to pose for me --haha--never. I’m getting photos done for myself soon and will see if I can bring her along.
