 Feeding Question

Hi im new here, i have a red tail boa and blood red corn snake and i was wondering about how often do you guys feed your red tails prefferably under 4 ft in length because mine is only 2 1/2 to 3 ft. long at the moment and i am wondering if i am under feeding her. i feed her 1 mouse every two weeks and i am wondering if i should be feeding once every week. i was thinking of buying a 4 mice and feeding on the day i usually do then wait a week and try feeding both snakes again to see if they would eat it after one week.

thank you for your time and any answers will be greatly appreciated. oh the snakea are in seperate tanks of course.

 Feeding Question

Red Tail,
Younger more active snakes should be fed one appropriately sized prey item once a week. Larger, less active snakes should be fed every 2 to 4 weeks. Your snake would fall into the younger category. You need to be feeding your snake 1 prey item that is the same size as his girth.. or largest part of it’s body. So, is your snake the same size around as the mouse? If it is then feed it that size every week..preferable as close to the same day as possible.. I usually feed on Wednesdays just b/c it was convenient after my weekly Tuesday trip to the beach (Myrtle Beach) to buy prey items. Just make sure that the prey item is the same size as your snake is around at it’s biggest point..and you’ll be fine. Do you feed live, pre-killed.. or frozen/thawed? not that it matters... just I have a feeling that you will be going up in prey size.. and I want to stress to you that live feedings need to be well supervised. Good luck and I hope this helps
Susan

 Feeding Question

I feed my 2feet RTB once every week on friday’s as a matter of fact he just ate a few minutes ago one of the males im breeding (he wasnt doing well enough on the mating part) so I bought another male and another female and its been squeeking almost nonstop since I put them in the cage together.

I feed mine live and supervise it every time (or atleast the 3 feeds I have given him) and with great success (exept for the first one he was constricting it and it had its mouth open so he scraped himself a bit, not a puncture wound just a small scrape which healed very nicely with no infection)

V.
