 Boa size ?

My boa is about 3 years old. She is 52.91 inches long. Is my boa too small? Is there something wroung that is making her stay so small? Here is a pic of her next to a foot long roller.

Thank you.

First off there are a number of things that goes into how large a boa gets and how long it takes. Cool looking boa BTW. These things include genetics(including locality lineage), food, health, environment...

Second, fast growing boas are in general not healthy animals. Boas should be fed conservativly for conservative growing. Boas that are raised quickly and attain larger sizes earlier in life , generally do not live long( lots of times not more than 5 years, where as boas can live, 20, 30 even 40 years)

Your boa is right on track there is no reason you should be worried over size at this point. If you think she may have parasites, then have a fresh fecal run, otherwise, keep doing what you are doing and do not increase food intake with out need.

Your boa looks fantastic to me. It’s nice to see a boa of that age that isn’t 8ft plus. Keep up the good work.

Hey nothing wrong with a 3 yr old at 8ft plus. Mine’s never been power fed!!! I think it’s just the same as anything it depends on the genes. Everyone and every snake will be different. Fat, thin, cute not so cute. Your snake looks great and think how much easier it is to handle I can hardly hold mine she’s so heavy. I assume it’s also a male? which are said not to grow as big. Enjoy your snake as it is as long as it’s healthy who cares?

Thanks, just though she was too small. I didn’t think it was a healthy thing.

I’m just giving you crap. Though personally (and this is in my own opinion), I think 10 days is too frequent for a boa of that age. But Like I said, that’s my opinion.

It just worried me that most people I talked to said there boa at that age was a few feet bigger. But she dose not show any sign of health problems.

^the people you talked to probably fed their boas too often or fed them too big of food items.......I think you have anything to worry about

How can every 10 days for a three year old be too frequent? She’d starve if I left her longer!!! She is eating large rats/guniea pigs.

Sherman, with all due respect, 8 feet for 3 years is quite large. I would have recomended to cut back to every 14 days when she hit 6 feet. I’m not saying you powerfeed or ever have, but it IS time for you to cut her back in my opinion. I’m not attacking(even a little) you or your boa, so there should be no reason for you to feel the need to defend her or yourself. All I’m trying to convey is that (as I have told quite a few people over the last few weeks) boas who get too large too quick are not on the path to being the model of fitness, she isn’t FAT now, but continueing frequent feeding will eventually make her fat, and put her at great health risk.
You seem to be of the mind that she needs this food(or perhaps you were being sarcastic about the starving thing). I assure you she does not need this much food to be healthy and continue to grow. At this point She could be put on a every 3 to 4 week schedual in my opinion. Boas can survive for months on end with no food and come out of it better in the end. I just had 5 of my boas off food completly for 5 months for the breeding season, not a single one lost any weight and in my opinion looked better after, more toned and muscular looking if any difference at all.

Starve? You do realize they can go several months w/o food right. I have nothing more to add. Florida said it all. I do have one male that is 3 years old and he eats once a month. Could he more frequently? Sure. But sometimes less is more.
