 My RT Boa

I have a 8ft red tail boa and i am going to build a 4’L 3’W 6’T and I want to know if this is good or does it needs to be bigger. Also does it need to be longer than what it is or will 4’ be long enough and is 6’ to tall or is it ok? Thanks!

I would make it at least 6ft long. Height is up to you, though you will probably have a harder time heating the cage that is taller.

Thanks for the info, so they do need more floor space than they need climbing space? Also if I wanted to put live plants in the tank what kind are safe for her to be with?

As I said in the other thread...You would be fine with a 5’ wide x 3’ deep x 3’ tall enclosure.

And here is why...(Assuming you have a female BCC that will max out it’s length)...

The circumference in the enclosure would be 16’ using the size I suggested.

5’ x 2 = 10’

3’ x 2 = 6’

10’ + 6’ = 16’

This would allow her to completely stretch out. If you want to go longer...you can...but you do not need to go any deeper. And I would highly suggest that you don’t go higher because it will be difficult to maintain proper heat and humidity.

Thankyou for your help. So how big will she get or is she already maxed out? And does she look pretty healthy? I have never owned such a large snake so I want to make sure I am doing everything right.

Do you mention how old she is.... she could easily grow...ummm another...3 to 6 feet. IF she is a true Red Tail... if justa common boa.. what do you guys think... usually max out around 10-12? Closer to 10.. but according to my boa book... Red Tails can be 18 -20 feet... but rarely will exceed10-12 in captivity... Might I suggest you buy the book Barron’s Boas. A Complete Pet Owners M.anual. It is very imformative. It has answered all of my questions... and some people here have had but were too lazy to research it themselves. LOL You’ll enjoy the book.

i got that book. i think when it says that, it just talking about the larger boas like anacondas. i think, so id say she would max out at 12-13’ if you keep her long enough
