Feeding in cage or not ? Whether you feed in its cage or not is a matter of personal opinion. Some people swear by it and others feed in the same enclosure. I personally have feed mine in the same cage she is housed in for the last three years and have had no problems.
As far as the bulb goes a CHE is better and that depends on the temps in the cage and the size of the cage. If it is a big cage with kind of cool temps you will need bigger wattage then if it is a small cage or a warm cage, etc.

Feeding in cage or not ? I’ve always fed Inga in her cage. Her previous owner did not. I have had no problems feeding her in the same enclosure but her feeding response is weird - she is a lazy eater - f/t 2xl rats that I just put in the cage and she gets to them whenever she feels like it - maybe even a few hours later. To me, her being large now - 7 feet and pretty thick, it is easier not to have to move her with a full belly and probably more comfy for her.

Feeding in cage or not ? In the cage,I’m not a big fan of moving very large snakes around that are thinking about food. Not to mention the stress on the animal,a big snake should be left alone after a good meal, not moved around.
There is no good reason to remove a snake from It’s "safe haven"to feed it,That’s It’s home.where it feels most secure.

Feeding in cage or not ? i have a question for everybody who posted on this... all my years of reptile care and affiliation, i was told to feed the snake outside of its normal enclosure, simply to avoid the misconception of your hand being food the next time you take it out. my red tail has been fed outside of its tank its entire life, and when i purchased it i continued the practice, and currently feed him in a wal-mart kiddie pool. i let him sit for about ten minutes after, just to give him any time he needs to realize he’s not eating anymore, then i place him right back in his tank. am i going about this all wrong?

Feeding in cage or not ? If the reason for taking the snake out to feed is so that it doesn’t associate opening the cage with feeding time, then don’t you think if you get it out every time you feed, that it would think it’s feeding time every time you remove it from it’s cage?
Try hook training it works for alot of people including myself. It’s just a thought. It really does come down to personal preference.

Feeding in cage or not ? i do agree with the concern of being removed from the cage and affiliating it with eating, but as soon as my snake has digested properly, i’m handling him just about every day, whether its feeding time or not. perhaps teh snake sees it as mixed signals, but he definitely comes out for more than just feeding. i do the same thing with my burmese python, and i have yet to see a problem with either snake.

Feeding in cage or not ? Responsible keepers do so much in and around the cages the snake is not going to get conditioned to think that opening the cage,or moving him means food.If all you do is open the cage to throw in food that might occur, but at that poiunt there would be far more things to worry about than biting.

Feeding in cage or not ? I think if i get a boa, i will be trying the whole leaving it in its normal tank for feeding, since others seem to be doing well with it i will try it even tho i move my ball python like i mentioned in another forum and how he only eats in that tank but with this boa i am buying i think i will try something new to see how well it goes ...

Feeding in cage or not ? HEy i have a few questions about all this my redtail is still on the smaller side and i take her out for every feeding but i have been worried about when she gets older that will be a big task to move her with a full belly especially because she can be a bit nippy after eating now. will my questions are: a snake stick i have always been told to never use one with a large snake it could hurt them, and in-cage feeding im using live stunned mice now because for some reason (most likely me lacking time to switch her over to frozen/thawed) she wont eat dead, should i make the time to switch her over to dead/thawed to protected her against bites if i want to feed her in-cage. i hope this made sense to you guys sorry

Feeding in cage or not ? You should switch to Frozen thawed regardless of where you feed the snake, live prey is just too risky for most people to deal with. Some Don’t mind risking nasty bites to their snakes i guess,That’s just not for me.
And not only will moving a large boa in feed mode be a task,it can be very dangerous. And very stress full on the animal with a huge prey item in It’s stomach.Whoever told you snake hooks are bad is flat out wrong, they are essential for safe handling.Do you know about hook training?
Jason.

Feeding in cage or not ? That i also considered when i got the boa, due to the fact rats are more aggressive then mice i am going to do pre-killed rats instead of live rats for mine, i do not wanna risk him getting hurt. It is just not worth it.

Feeding in cage or not ? No i have not had much experience with the snake stick because mine are all small i just got a rainbow boa that is going to need it so im going to go to a feeding at the sanctuary i work at and learn the correct ways to use it and even though i stun them to prevent an injury to my snakes i should still switch them to thawed. Also could a rat be stunned i beat them i know thats not the nicest thing to do but with a little mouse it takes on hit and thats all a rat seems as it could be harder, this is the way i was showed to feed them i dont know if this is normal among the snake world

Feeding in cage or not ? A easy way to feed a rat to a boa as i was told if it was live when you bought it is to put it in a pillow case and slam it hard against the ground, sounds cruel as well but it prevents injury to your snake XD

Feeding in cage or not ? Slamming animals on the ground is not my thing, maybe people though.I have never understood why people choose to feed live prey to snakes, there is no need 90% of the time.
