yeah i think that cage would be more than sufficient, just so long as the heating and lighting are properly set up. if you’re buying a baby red tail, i would block half of the cage off for a little while, because babies have a tendency to get scared with too much space. however, i don’t know the dimensions of this cage, so i could be wrong. my cage might be a little overkill, but its big enough for my snake to roam at night and then some... the picture sucks, and i’m sorry its verticle, but the dimensions are 6’ long, 3’ deep, and 3’ tall. we had to take my basement sliding door completely off to get it in the house, but its heavy as hell too.

since this picture was taken, i’ve changed the bedding to newspaper, taken out the tree limb and the rock, and my snake is as happy as can be. good luck, hope this helped.

Actually, a good rule of thumb is the length of the cage needs to be 1/2 to 3/4 as long as the length of his body and as wide as 1/2 his body at all times... and this is bare necessity... larger would be better but it needs to be at least this size. They do stress out if the enclosure is too big.. but if he is already 1 year then stress problems should be minimal.. IF your husbandry is correct... you put him in his enclosure... leave him alone for 1 week to 10 days... don’t hold him... don’t offer food... just spot clean the enclosure and offer fresh water. After this acclimation period... offer him food...wait 48 hours then you can begin to handle him if you wish

Are you aware of the temps.. humidity... size of prey etc?
Also, make sure you keep him in quarantine for a period of 30-90 days

let me know if you have anymore questions...

~smiles~

Susan
