This is so random but... Your question is not random at all, the answer is really quite interesting.(and long so bear with me) Oral glands(loosely termed salivary glands) include the premarillary, palatine, nasal, lacrimal,Duvernoys,Harderian, posterior, sublingual, lingual, infralabrial, and mandibular glands. Not all of the oral glands are found in all reptiles. Theinfralabial, supralabial, lingual, sublingual, premarillary, nasal and palatine glands all produce mucas which lubricates the mouth and helps in food transportation. The lacrimal and Harderian glands lubricate the eyes (thus not needing tear ducts to keep eyes moist) and vomeronasal organs through ducts that connect the eyes to the mouth. The Duvernoys gland is present in all snakes and produces a material that is released on the marillary teeth. This gland is modified in poisonous snakes. Oral glands are found in all terrestrial reptiles but are reduced in aquatic species. Notable exceptions are the sea snakes. So, after much adew, yes you are basically correct, it doesn’t run out their mouths so it is going down their throats. These are amazing creatures we own, so the more we can learn about them and their physiology the better.
