 Boaphile vs animal plastics

Simple question I just got two 5 foot columbian red tail boas one male one female. Can I get the pros and cons and opinions on boaphile and animal plastic cages? Welcome to throw info on any other cages too.

Tom

i have my 6 foot bci housed in a 6x3x2 animal plastics terrarium and it’s great. it holds the humidity very well, and heating is no problem. there is belly heat under the left half of the tank. it’s got two hinged plexiglass doors with locks, so there’s no chance of escape :) ap was easy to order from as well, customer service was very easy to talk to and they make sure of all the options you want on your cage. they build and assemble the terrarium there to make sure it all fits together correctly, then disassemble it to ship via fedex freight. the cage was easy to put together upon arrival, as the instructions were extremely clear.

hope this is useful info - i’ve never dealt with boaphile or any other company so this is all i have to contribute!

Boaphiles come pre-assembled. All you do is unpack it and take the tape off. I like the nice black cages, they look slick and hold humidity perfectly. The only complaint I have however, is that Urates sometimes are very hard to get off, especially if newspaper gets stuck on the bottom. Customer service is not as good as animal plastics though.

now that you mention it, sra, i’ve noticed the same about the difficulty of cleaning urates off my ap cage as well. not all the time, just if there’s a lot of it some elbow grease is needed...usually a bit of water on a rag loosens it up ok.

I’ve taken a sponge to mine, but still no go. I’m afraid that if I am too rough on it, I will scratch the silicone on the bottom that seals the cage. I tried soaking paper towels and letting them sit on the spots (it’s in all four corners.. lol) but still nothing. I may have to sand blast those spots out LOL

Hi Tom,

I have never tried the AP cages. I like the Boaphiles. I have the 4’ x 2’ x 1’ ones in both black and grey.

I think urates are a problem with any cage. I just spray some water on whichever urates are giving me a hard time. After soaking with water they usually come right up for me.

I do know that feces will stain the grey Boaphiles (and I’m assuming that they stain the white cages too).

I’ve read several complaints about Jeff’s customer service but I have never had a problem.

I have used Vision cages in the past and prefer the Boaphiles over Vision.

I just bought my year old albino columbian a Boaphile cage (used, off craigslist for $100!) and it’s a great cage. I do love the look though, of the two door AP cages, but they are quite a bit more than what I spent. If I were getting another, I’d probably go with that for just that reason. I’m pretty happy with the cage though, and so is Willie, which is all that matters.

I recommend that YOU decide what features you want in a cage and then decide on a brand. The are quite a few quality cage manufactures out there these days. Some offer options others don’t. For me I wanted a cage with a thick BLACK material and it had to have sliding glass doors. With just those features that "big" list just got dwindled down. AP was the choice for me, are they " better" than any of the others, not necessarily, but they offer all of the features that I wanted.
