 Will be getting soon

I’m getting a RTB in a couple of months and I have a few questions. I’ve been reading the care sheets on this site, and all seems well. I own 0.1 normal ball and 1.0 spider ball, so I have experience(about 12+ years). Now some of my questions:
1. I keep my BPs in tubs. Do any of you keep your RTBs in tubs? It seems once they get to be adults, the tubs wouldn’t work out so well.
2. I read on one of the care sheets that one guy injects calcium into the rats as a supplement. Do they require extra calcium because they get to be a larger size??
3. From what I’ve been reading, the temp and humidity setting seem to be around the same as for BPs. 75-80F on cool side and 89-93F on warm side. And humidity of 50-60% normal, and increased to 70% during shed. Is that accurate??
I think that’s it for now. Also, if there are any good breeders in Utah that you know of, let me know if you can.
Thanks,
Will

Good luck with your new snake.
1. Tubs probably aren’t going to work once the snake gets over 5-6’. It’s going to be hard to find a tub big enough for it. Enclosures should be 1 sq ft of floor space for each foot of snake.
2. No, they don’t require extra calcium. I don’t know why that guy does that. The mice/rats/rabbits have all the calcium they need.
3. A boa doesn’t need it quite that hot. Hot side of the enclosure should be high 80s. I keep my hot side at 89 degrees and he is doing great. Ambient temp is mid 80s with a cool side of 82 degrees. Humidity should cycle, but around 60% average is great. My enclosure gets misted once a day and then gets to a low of 55% before I spray again. So, yeah an average of 60% is good. Mine has great sheds, eats great, and defecates about 2-4 days after feeding. So, I think these temps and humidity are perfect.
I don’t know any breeders in Utah. Sorry bud. I can suggest one here in Kansas that ships. Mark Miller at locolizard.com. He has some great BCIs. Awesome morphs. You can call him (he never answers his email) and talk to him about what you want, and he is usually willing to negotiate unless it is a really good morph.
Good luck.

There is a christmas tree tub that Rubbermaid makes that I have heard is large enough for an adult Boa.

Boaphile, animal plastics and several other places make and ship large 6’ or larger tanks. They are pretty pricy, which is why many of us make our own wooden ones.

Boas need pretty close to what Balls need temp and humidity wise. 70% in shed, 55-60 the rest of the time. Its all pretty much been answered, and really really nice to see someone doing homework before the snake comes home. Sometimes a snake literally falls into our lap unexpectedly....but its really better for the animal if everything is set up and ready when it comes home.

Kudos to you!

To continue what fairy frog said, GOOD JOB on doing your homework first. So many people just grab a snake because they think it looks cool and has no idea how to care for it.
Also what FFM said, the rubbermaid tubs they sell at wal-mart at chirstmas time (called Christmas Tree Storage Box) is quite large. We have a our x-mas tree in one right now, and it might work for a male. I don’t know. Its about 5’ long and 2’ wide, so as long as your boa doesn’t get past 10 feet, this will work. I don’t really know though. I don’t use tubs, I like display cages, but I don’t have a huge collection, so I can afford to spend the extra bucks on nicer cages.
