Thinking of buying a red tail Is there a reason why you would need to use a ten gallon tank for so long? Tanks are pretty cheap.

Thinking of buying a red tail You’re probably better of just starting with a 20 gallon. A baby is already going to be somewhere around 2 feet, and it will outgrow the 10 gallon in less than 6 months. Mine is about 26" and has a 20 gallon. He has one hide and a water bowl. He hides in the hide on the warm side, and sometimes he curls up in the corner behind his water dish. He’s plenty comfortable. A 20 isn’t too much space for a young boa.

Thinking of buying a red tail So long as you provide enough hides, you could go larger with Boas. I have watched mine explore all over late night. Hides help them feel secure and less open, which is when they would be most suceptible to preaditors if they were wild.
