Cage built for my red tail i’m getting soon! hey guys, so i got my cage built, its 4x2x2 and its going to be housing a baby red tail which should be coming in next tuesday or wednesday :) (and i will be using a divider at first so he doesn’t have too much room) i’m using a UTH and a light fixture, but i’m wondering... should i use 2 light fixtures instead? i’m still not completely finished with it, just a little tweaks here and there for the finishing touches, but, i was just wondering what you guys’ opinion was. thanks

Cage built for my red tail i’m getting soon! Make sure you have enough hides for the little guy. They need a feeling of security, especially when they are younger. As far as light fixtures, are they for lighting only or heat? If they are for lighting, make sure you have them on a timer, maintain a 12 hour day/night cycle. Also make sure your rtb cannot get burned if its a bulb. Strip lights are good. Ensure your new enclosure will hold proper heat and humidity.

Cage built for my red tail i’m getting soon! What Kind of tank is it. I would look into radiant heat panels. They get screwed inside the tank on the ceiling so to speak. If you have the money, hook it up to a digital thermostat and you can set the temp you want. Mine its set for 90 in the day and at night 85. Perfect everytime. Plus it won’t burn the snake if they touch it.

Cage built for my red tail i’m getting soon! its a wooden enclosure. and as for money, it all just depends how much radiant heat panels are. and where can i find them? i’m gonna give it a test run in the morning when i’m home and see about how my temps and humidity are, and if they aren’t good then i guess i’ll have to try the heat panels

Cage built for my red tail i’m getting soon! Either works. Lights need to be kept screened away from the animal somehow so they dont burn themselves on it. (Ive seen so many tanks with unprotected clamp on hoods lately...soooo dangerous) Any heat source is going to be drying to the tank. Radiant heat panels I have heard are lovely. I have lights in my tank.

Cage built for my red tail i’m getting soon! In My opinion, snakes arent a hobby. They are a pet and a friend for life. They deserve all the proper housing, feeding and attention a dog or a cat would get. As such, if you have the money, get them the right set up the first time and you will never have to worry about it again

fairyfrogmother, i have screens just like those on the tops for glass tanks under the lights so he won’t be able to get burned.

Cage built for my red tail i’m getting soon! Depends on your source. I googled them- they were around 95.00 for the big ones I think but that was a few years ago. Try googling em.

Cage built for my red tail i’m getting soon! At Least you are doing your homework whereas some people buy on impulse because they are"cute"at first. FFM is right. I paid 90 bucks for mine and it is for a 4x2 tank and its perfect.

Cage built for my red tail i’m getting soon! I have visited a web site called Reptile Basics many times ...I feel they have many of the higher professional products at reasonable prices...here is the web link. Naviagate to the heating section and if you have an extra 50 - 75.00 you can look at the Johnson controls for regulating temps. THERMOSTATS
