Need help
About a week or so after he got it he noticed "bugs" crawling all over it, he cleaned them off and cleaned the tank but day or so later same thing happened, he found out the snake had mites. When I went over to his appt a few days later my wife and I noticed the snake seemed under fed as the skin was kind of loose. I let him know that the snake was I my opinion under fed, and he is tryin to get her plumped up a little. This was about a 2 weeks ago. He text me 2 days ago and asked if it is normal for a snake to blow bubbles while it breaths, and that he found a few wood chips in her mouth, he is using aspen bedding as this is what I use for my King and I recomended it to him. I never had any of my snakes do this so I have no idea what is wrong if anything. Can anyone give us an idea why she is blowing bubbles while she breaths, and why she would have some bedding in her mouth? He has only had the snake a few weeks so whoever had this snake before, in my opinion, didnt care for it properly. Thanks in advance for any help. Allen |

Respiratory infection is another story though. That requires a vet’s care and treatment, usually antibiotics by injection. both of those conditions will make the snake refuse to eat; mites make it uncomfortable, itchy and down right irritable. RI will make it difficult to breathe (hence the open mouth, bubbles from the nose and shavings in its mouth) and it will not eat. I do not use shavings for my boa. Instead, I bought a large piece of outdoor carpeting and cut a few pieces so I always have a spare when I clean the cage. she seems to like it and then you dont have to worry about her swallowing any foreign matter. I have also heard that aspen or any pine or cedar shavings can lead to RI’s. I haven’t experienced this since I don’t use it, but have heard plenty of stories. Definitely get the snake to a vet, ASAP. Antibiotics are most likely the only solution at this point. Good Luck! |
