 Amazon tree boa...

I want to get a pair of amazon tree boas but I’m not exatly sure what to use for flooring. Like cypress mulch or leaf litter or what? I went on the care sheets all over the place but none of them satisfied me so I’m hear asking people who own some. Also is it ok to house them together, and is it alright to get different colored ones to breed? thanks!

From what I’ve seen, the best person on here to ask about ATB’s would be SoLA. The one thing I know, these snakes are NOT for beginners.. and are not for people that actually want to handle their snakes..from what I’ve seen other people say.. they are quite ummm the biters. But I think they they are beautiful and make great "Showpiece animals". Also, I’ve never seen anyone on this forum recommend that any snake be housed in pairs... but like I said, make it a point to talk to SoLA.

Hardly anyone on this websit has ATB’s cause they are not freindly.
Your not going to get alot of good info about them here, no better than anywhere else on the internet by just doing a search.
Get whatever type of substrate you want... I get some kind of reptile wood bark stuff. I like the way it looks. It is also good to keep on top of the soil so that your moss (if you like moss) does not get soaking wet with the moister from the soil (if you like soil). If you think you can dodge the strikes of 2 atb’s...Good luck.

I commented on your other post but I will make a quick comment here too. I have been out of town with no internet for the past week (living in a tent).

These are not difficult snakes to keep. Feeding can sometimes be tricky, but that will only help you be a more experienced reptile keeper.

If you want a snake to cuddle with ... this isn’t it lol. They climb around a bit when being held, they wrap around things and can be difficult to get off, and yes...they might just bite you in the face when you least expect it. But they are great snakes. I love them and hope to have another pregnat while I’m typing this. Cross your fingers : )

Thank you soLA!! I’ll probably be purchasing them over the summer. My enclosures for them are black indoors, wooden with sliding glass doors, and are ventilated from the sides and 24" all around. Once again thank you for your assistance!!

Hey, SoLa, could you post pics of your amazon setups? So I could get an idea of how to set up mine?

My set ups are rather simple actually. I will show you some of my other Latin American snake set ups because they are all basically set up the same way as having the same substrate, glass water bowls, and things to climb.

If you have questions about heating or any specifics, let me know. I do change things throughout the year, so it would be hard for me to tell you "exactly" what temps I set things at, and the humidity. But when I get home, I could post what it is at right now.

I control all the cages using Herpstat Pro thermostats. Some cages have belly heat and a heat shroud for cool end regulation, and others have a heat panel with the probe set on the bottom corner of the cool end.

Yeah thanks for all the pics, I am thinking of doing a more natural setup with a rock wall and some live plants...

That plan will work too. Right now, my snakes are set up for function and ability to move. I do a lot of educational displays, so I can’t be moving around a bunch of decorations. The simplistic carpet substrate and glass water bowls makes it easy to prepare for shows, and has a clean sharp look.

We actually set one of the animal plastics cages up at work with a full rocks and tree buttress background with cypress mulch as substrate. You would be surprised how amazing that looks as a naturalistic set up.

But like I said, function comes first. Once you get the necessities for the animal done...you can decorate all you want : )
