i know you have experience with them so i was wondering would these cage dimensions be ok for a rosy boa?

length=18 inches
width=17 1/2 inches
hight=18 inches

if its not big enough i will get a bigger tank but i already have this one as an extra soooooo...

Well, thank u for asking someone who has experience first of all lol.

The cage both me and husband have (and started with) is a 20 gallon high. The dimensions of that is

Length:24 inches
Width:12 inches
Height:16 inches

Your cage would probably be fine for a VERY young Rosy. But as they get older you will need to get a bigger cage. My husband’s rosy, there is no way she would fit in the dimensions u have and mine would be VERY tight. So...actually, i would just start out with something a bit bigger. It just depends on the entire length of the snake. Do u know the length of the specimen you are getting?

would that 20 gallon high be ok for one for its whole life?lol. i have a spare of those exact dimensions.(my cousin knew a breeder who was trying to "get away from the snake buisness"i have no idea why.lol) and he gave us a few tanks but the 2 i mentioned r the biggest.not really sure what size were getting (safe to say closer to a neonate).but i can provide cover,hides and everthing one needs.

A baby Rosy would be fine in a ten gallon, but there really is no "need" for a 20 high. 20 LONGS are best for snakes, because Rosys are not climbers, they are burrowers (not all), so all that space on top is wasted, instead of providing more floor space. This is true with pretty much all terrestrial snakes.

Yes, a 20 gal. can hold a rosy for its whole life. But u may want to start out with the tank you mentioned before so you don’t stress it. A 20 gallon long or a 20 gallon high is fine. My rosy actually spends more time burrowing then climbing so obviously each Rosy has its own personality and what it wants to do. Mine will try and climb the sides, he can actually get all the way to the top. But if u decide to get a 20 long, make sure it has a lock or something heavy on top so they can’t escape. Yes it would make more sense to put a rosy in a 20 long but to me it really doesn’t matter. Just make sure you give the rosy 2 hides (identical) a water dish and some aspen or something so if it chooses can burrow when it wants. Just start with the small tank and the move ur way up! Its just a baby so u don’t wanna stress it when its young!!!
