 Sand Boa Problem

I’ve had my Sand Boa over a year now, when I first got him, he didnt eat for a couple of months. Then one day I tried to feed him in a seperate cage and he ate, since then I got him to eat a fuzzy once a week. Last August he stopped eating again. I’ve gotten him to eat a couple times since then but maybe only four times. I try every saturday to feed him but to no avail. He used to come out and slither all over his cage but he rarely does it anymore, he seems a little jumpy when I go to pick him up now, and when I do he is kinda limp and doesnt move around much.
He is about 2 1/2 ft, I have him in a 40 gallon, in aspen bedding. His hot spot is aroung 82 and his cool spot around 78-79, his humidity in between 20 and 27% and his last shed was back in july.
If you guys have any suggestions on whats wrong with him and how I can get him to feed again feel free to post. Thanks much.
-Joe

Well first of all...the cage is a little TO big for a 2 1/2 ft Boa. Sand Boas don’t need very big cages what so ever, a 20 gallon would do him fine. The temps could actually be higher as well..they can go up to about 95 on the warm side and the cool side and humidity seem to fine. How often do u handle him? Good choice on Aspen lol. Umm..yea thats all i can really think of, the tank is WAY to big for such a small guy. Try getting a 20 gallon long and seeing how he does afterwards.

I agree. To big of a space can make them jumpy. My sand boa is 17 in {last I mesured} and her tank is a 10 gal.

No, none. I put the fuzzy in his feeding cage and he showed no intrest in the thing. He’s in his new 20 gallon and his temps are higher. But still no eating, anymore ideas?

 Sand Boa Problem

Ok first how old is he? The breeder I bought my baby from says sometimes they stop eating at a certain age...not sure how old I have to ask...Is he loosing weight? If you can’t get him to eat and he is loosing weight get to a vet soon. My top questions are:
Is he parasite free?
Is his weight ok?
Can you check his mouth and see if its pink? Don’t hurt him but if you can eaisly get his mouth open try and look. If you are scared you may hurt him ask a vet to check. It can be any number of things wrong. Or he may not want to eat. I’m not sure but maybe a breeder on here can tell you if they go off feed for mating season? Like I said there are tons of things to check for so start simple. Weight, mouth, parasites and possible fasting. I hope it helps.
If I am wrong on any of this please correct me! I am only going on MY experiance with my sand boa.
