 WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!

I have a red tail boa. She’s about 6 months old. Since I’ve brought her home we’ve had problems with feedings.

We got her straight on feedings. Then she started throwing up the feedings. So I switched her to something smaller. That worked. Then she started throwing those up. Everything is thawed, temps are right she’s not blocked b/c I see feces. Vet has even said she isn’t blocked. She’s fine.

I just don’t get it. I waited two weeks again to feed her. She won’t take it now. REFUSES it. I looked at her and I can tell she has lost weight.

I don’t understand. What am I doing wrong!!

Humidity is also fine. Forgot to mention that. Just in case you didn’t read I feed FROZEN THAWED. Also, I’ve tried the cutting the mouse open. Didn’t work either.

are you handling her after feeding? coz u cant do that for at least a day after

my red wont eat if hes even remotely touched for the day and stays in feeding mode for ages after (its a good anti handling mechanism for me)

by the way i love the name but uhh expect some stick for it SusanC doesnt like kids being influenced by said thing (dont say what it actually is about and maybe she wont mind so much) so ya no thought ide give ya heads up on that. She has a point about kids visiting the site, way too many kids end up on here with boas they have gone wrong with somehow

it could be if the temp is too hot or too cold, also it could be that your cage setup isnt done right , and your snake is streesed out

 WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!

After 6 months of living in the cage and everything being fine to throwing up every single time? I don’t think so.

But it’s okay though. She’s went on to a better place now. Temps were 85-91 warm and 75-80 on cool. Humidity at 60%

Can’t tell me that isn’t what a boa is supposed to be at since I’ve had it like this.

thanks for all the advice though. I won’t be coming back to this site since I don’t have her anymore.

temps should be 88-90 wamr and 79-81 cool side with a constatn 55-65% humidity. but remember young boas are prone to reguritation. dont over do it and give 7-10 days between feed refusals/regurations to help wil settling down abd building stomach acids back up.

young boas are tricky first year after that become pigs

well I can tell you that the dang temps weren’t right... and THAT would be why you don’t have her anymore... and OH MY GOD I never flame anyone ... BUT you NEVER need to have another snake... did you actually read anything on the care of boas? you’re temps... at your highest were what they should have ever been at their lowest... Good grief!!!!! UGHHH!!!!
and thanks for giving a complete idiot the heads up about me and drug use... that was so nice... lol

Now that I am over it... I’ll apologize... a healthy snake could have lived in those temps.. and I actually preach those temps being the border line gradient for a boa. However, when a snake throws up.. it just isn’t healthy ..period. if you do come back.. first.. I’m sorry for being such a bytch... second... it has been my experience.. that although the books say that boas can live at those temps...and they can.. most do better if you bump it up a little... I have a boa that will not eat unless his enclosure is 94 degrees... anyway.. now that I feel better about trying to set a better example... I’m sorry about your snake... although you never actually said it died... you said... it went on to a better place... that could have meant your neighbors... lol

BTW... I know this girl that always puts her nick name as Stoned Smurfette... would your name happen to be Crystal?

She went onto a better place meaning she died.

As far as I was told/read and yes, I did read for many months before I even made this purchase said the hot end should never get above 92. It never dropped blow 85 on the warm end and stayed about 80 on the cooler end. Humidity was 55-60% all times.

No my name isn’t Crystal but thanks for asking. I was quite upset to see your message since I did just loose the one thing I carried about a lot and took great pride in doing so. I did everything to the best of my knowlegde with the things that were given. As far as I could really tell, I did nothing wrong. Everyone that I’ve talked to who have had boas told me everything was right. There was just something wrong with her.
