 Kenyan sand boa Q’s

Hiya
We aquired a Kenya sand boa last nite, the previous owner never had him on any heat he was just kept up against a household radiator :o
Ive noticed that when i hold him to my ear to check his breathing that he is making a clicking noise, he is also puffing ths bottom lip out like a frog does (if that makes sense lol) and he some times gapes and yawns but so far there has been no mucas or discharge ans his nostrals are clear.

I was thinking that he had a r.i because off the conditions he has been kept in, does anyone know if this sounds about right. I have gutted his tankand he is on aspen just now as thats wot he was previously on and i didnt want to change it to much and scare him. I have also got him on a heatmat and his temp at the hot end is about 95.

Does anyone have any advice or had any similar experiences?

Leeann

Sounds exactly like my Rosy a few months ago. My rosy was making clicking noises, opening his mouth and all that. So yes, it is an RI thats for sure. Make sure his cage is set up right. Temperatures need to be very high and you should probably have him on papertowel until it goes away. Also, take him to the vet for some medication and have him checked out to comfirm that it is in fact an RI, i know with my rosy it was. Just keep him very warm ( i hope you know the temps you need to keep him at) and take him to the vet.

i see you have belly heat right now. you can add a heat lamp (ceramic if possible) this will dry out the infection. give him her temps of maybe 95 degrees for a couple days on the warm end. same thing happened to my milk snake and this helped him tremendously. within a couple days he was breathing normal again. make sure you tank stays dry and use a substrate with little to no dust. good luck.
