My Rosy Boa
I’m Ammeratsu, or Ammi, and I’m a 14 year old girl. I own 5 leopard geckos, 1 rosy boa, and 1 brazilian rainbow boa. Reptile wise, anyways. I also own 4 goats and 1 sheep, 3 horses, 1 pony, 5 chickens, and 1 duck. I love to ride, and I have my own horse, Esperanza. She bucked me off and I have a broken collarbone. Oh well, I get to ride again in late August. Anyways, this is Serendipity. I’ve had her for about a year, and she was a rescue from my sister(odd, huh?)

Sorry about your collarbone, that must really suck and I hope you feel better soon! Glad to see another Rosy Boa owner here, its nice to know you’re not one of the only ones! If you don’t mind, could you explain her caging and how you have it set up with temperatures and stuff? I like to make sure everything is alright with temperature wise. Don’t want another member to end up with a sick snake like I did with my male a few years ago when he got a Respiratory Infection because of cool temps! |

And it does suck, but oh well. It happens in riding. And yeah, it’s great to know someone else that owns rosies. I’m hoping to get a male soon. And sure, no problem. She in a 20 long with snake aspen. Her decor is this cool tangle of sticks(steralized) that she loves to climb on and hang out on, this awesome little rock that’s shape like a cave that she likes to hide in, a brick(steralized) that gets nice and warm(85-90 degrees), a water dish, and a couple decoratilve fake desert plants. I use a ceramic heat bulb since I can leave it on 24/7 without disturbing her photoperiod. And I like it because the belly heat comes from the warmth from the brick under it and it also heats from above. Does that all sound good? She has a great feeding response, never refuses foos unless she’s shedding. |

As for her caging, you need to have a cool side and a warm side. Warm side temperatures should read from 85-92 while cool side should range from 75-80. These should also be measured by a digital thermometer on both sides. I’d simply stick with a UTH but if the light is working for you and you have no problems with it and it still heats up the bottom then okay. She should also have two hides, one for the cool and warm side. Other than that I think you are fine! |

The light is on one side, but I haven’t been measuring the cool side. I just dug through my reptile stuff and found another thermometer, so I stuck it in the cool side and it reads 79 pretty consistently. That’s okay, right? My thermometers are digital and have probes. I’ve been using the ceramic bulb for a little over a year for her, and the placement of a nice, flat rock kind of acts as a UTH. Whenever she’s not on it, it heats up perfectley to about 90-91 and I see her lay on it for a while and them move off, so it seems like she’s getting proper heat. Plus, her feeding response is brilliant and she digests pretty well. As for the hides, I went out this morning after reading that and collected together a bunch of flat rocks. I baked them in the oven and wiped them down with alcohol, arranged them so it makes a really need little cave and shower caulked them togther. They’re really firm, so they won’t slip and crush her. I’ve seen her in both hides this morning. She’s very active. |

Here is a picture of our (for sure) male. I’m guessing he may be a San Gabriel locality after some help from some Rosy people! He’s about 2 and a half years old and 2 and a half feet long. His name is Kain.
Then this is our female (who may turn out to be male) limburg albino. She is 3 years old and a little over 3 feet long. Her name is Akira which is japanese for bright/dawn.
Then their cages. They aren’t anything special. We just keep them on papertowel after the incident with the Aspen bedding I had in my male’s cage. It got dusty and the temperatures got cooler so he ended up with a Respiratory infection which really sucked. Akira’s Cage
Kain’s cage (I keep a hide right in the middle of the hot and cool side and he enjoys it!)
I did get one reply about the locality of your boa and the guy even said she’s a coastal. I will get more responses before letting you know for sure! |

I have been told by multiple people that yes, she is in fact a Coastal Rosy Boa! |

Beautiful rosies you have. I’m jelous, lol. I really want to get her either a snow or whitewater to breed with. I don’t have any money, though. xP |

I was offered a free pair of Rosys about a week ago but I can’t take them since I’m just a poor college girl and don’t really have room for two more cages. |
