How to take care of rosy boas They are very easy to take care of, extremely docile and don’t get extremely big and also make great beginner snakes. They will only grow up to 3 feet max and get as big around as about a golf ball but slightly smaller. Cage setup is easy. They’ll need a UTH (under tank heater), two identical hides (for cool and warm side), a small shallow water dish and you can add a branch or something to climb on. You will also want to get a digital thermometer for each side so you can read both the temps and the humidity. They don’t need high humidity; best for them is from 20-30% humidity no matter where you are located. The warm side of the tank should be from 85-92 degrees while the cool side should range from 75-80 degrees. For substrate (bedding) you can use Aspen bedding (doesn’t hold humidity), newspaper or paper towels. If you go with aspen bedding, make sure to change it often so it does not get dusty and cause your snake to get sick. Make sure the temperatures do not go past about 73 on the cool side otherwise; even then your snake could get sick. When you first get a baby Rosy Boa, they will feed on medium fuzzy mice and when they reach adult size, you can feed them adult mice or small rat pups. You should feed them no bigger then 1 1/2 the size of the thickest part of their body. They are burrowing snakes, but don’t hide a lot like sand boas do. Rosy Boas don’t need water all the time but offer it anyway since you really never know when they will want to drink. They are nocturnal snakes, but you can find them active during the day, especially if they are hungry. You can house a baby in a 10-gallon glass tank and once they get bigger, they can live the rest of their lives in a 20-gallon long. When you first purchase your Rosy, let them get used to their new home for a week before trying to feed it or handle it. They may still be slightly jumpy afterwards, but they will calm down. Don’t be afraid of getting bit, it really doesn’t hurt; it’s the surprise that gets ya! They aren’t always the cheapest snakes, especially if you get an albino, but you can find newborn babies at shows for $50 and up. My fiancee and I each have one; I have the male while he has the female. I will post some pics of them along with an example of a cage setup!
Here is my male Arizona Desert Rosy Kain. He’s about 2 ½ feet right now!

Then this is my Fiancé’s albino female Akira. She’s 3 feet long!

Heres Kain’s cage for an example! Cool side on the left, warm side on the right..inbetween is where the black hide is.

How to take care of rosy boas Well, all snakes eat rodents. They really don’t have any alternatives. I thought it was kind of sad at first but not I really don’t care. I just look at them as snake food.

How to take care of rosy boas Well, what I should have said is MOST snakes eat rodents. I know garters and a few others are exceptions to this but most Boas and pythons and such eat rodents and they have no real alternative.

How to take care of rosy boas Albino Rosys always cost about $200, which is how much we paid for ours. I thought you were going to buy from Top Line?

How to take care of rosy boas Well, I don’t know much about genetics but I know if you breed 100% het to a 100% het, its likely you’ll get albinos. If you breed a 100% het to a visual Albino, you’ll get some albinos out of that. Thats all I know about that, I don’t think you’ll get any visual albinos if you breed him since hes not 100% het but then again, i’m not sure.

How to take care of rosy boas dont know bout PJs but I just posted about Het Albinos
My understanding is 66% het means basicly that it had two parents who were 100% het for Albino. It could have the gene, or it might be normal. (correct me if Im wrong oh people who have more experience than I with breeding!)
I have two 100% hets who are now two years old and 5 feet long. If I were to breed them together, I have a 25% chance of some albinos, 50% chance of 100% hets and 25% chance of normals. The 100% hets and normals would look identical...so I would then call them all 66% het. If I breed one of them with an Albino, that would increase chances of having albinos to 50%, and all normal looking ones would be 100% het.
