 Feeding Outside of the Cage

Hello,

I just had a question about feeding outside of the cage. So most likely you put your snake in a box or bin. After he is done eating, what do you do with the snake? Do you pick him up and put him back in his home enclosure? Or do you leave your snake in the bin for a day or so. My concerns are I don’t want to get bit due to a feeding response and I don’t want my snake to regurgitate its food if I pick it up and put it back in its cage. Can you just tell me what you guys do?

Thanks!

 Feeding Outside of the Cage

I feed inside the tank. I use Eco earth so that it passes if they happen to get a little in their mouth. My hubby and I get bit less now, there is less stress on the snake at feeding time and I dont have an extra tank sitting about. The whole " they will bite you more if you feed them in their tank" thing is a myth. If they smell food, and they are hungry, they will strike.

A better idea if you have a cage defensive/aggressive snake is to wash your hands with a good smelly soap before you handle them every time- then when feeding day comes, use either a pair of gloves that are used just for feeding day (and tongs) or dont wash your hands. They will soon associate the scent as "Not food"
