 Substrate for a baby sand boa?

So i just bought a baby kenyan sand boa and i was wondering what kind of substrate i can use for them as a baby...i read online that sand is not safe for babies...also what substrate can i then use for my snake when they get older?

definately aspen. its easier to burrow through, easier to clean and remove from the cage, doesn’t have a high risk of impaction (though its kinda dusty so if not changed at least monthly can cause RI’s), and in some cases sand "tunnels" will collapse (though you think oh well its a burrowing snake what does that matter) the snake could get hurt especially a baby.

I too use aspen, though I would like to get something that was more sand like. When I first got my boa I used some sort of crushed walnut substrate. DO NOT USE THIS, at least for a small sand boa it did not work. It would get caught in its gums and I would have to pick it out, traumatic and unpleasant.
