pines are very hard to find in the wild. They spend a lot of time actually burrowed in sand. This time of year though is your best bet to find males on the crawl looking for a mate. Pines are usually found accidentally and are very protected in some states so make sure you can legally collect/posses them where you live. Sorry, I don’t know much about fox snakes.

Pine snakes don’t live in Wisconsin. Fox snakes like wet, almost swampy forest areas near larger bodies of water, so you won’t see them either in most of the places that it’s actually fun to look for snakes.
Are you just looking as a naturalist, or because you want one as a pet? Because, while a wild-caught snake of either species MIGHT make a good pet, there’s an even better chance that it will simply not appreciate being put in a cage no matter how nicely set up or big that cage seems. Also, it may have strange eating habits, like a preferance for birds or moles or something like that which you don’t have easy access to, and it will probably be accustomed to hibernating unless it’s a hatchling. Captive-bred ones, on the other hand, are pretty much guaranteed to be great pets, unless something unpleasant happens to them.

all right, you live in miluakee so, would a drive to the soutern shores of lake erie be to far for you
i’ve been there and it was unbelieveable how many i caught and saw there
the banks were loaded
look under rotten logs and upturned boats and they also lay out in the open
this is where you can catch fox snakes
i know of a good spot in southern jersey called the pine barrens
that is the best spot that you will ever find to catch northern pine snakes
it is unbelieveable

hope that this will help you

At the last show I was at, there were quite a few CB Western Fox hatchlings there. They were only going for thirty bucks, too. The species may be getting more available.

i have a fox snake from illinois he is about 3 feet, great temperment also, pines are mostly southern eastern snakes, actually was a show on last night "the snake hunter" did a nice segment on them in jersey like stated above, they burrow alot and lay thier eggs under ground, so find tracks and wait patiently when its season for breeding, i would suggest.

 Pine snake or fox snake!!!!!!!!

I live in the south suburbs of Chicago and I find Fox snakes all the time during the summer. They seem to like hiding under old railroad ties along the tracks. As for Pine snakes, the Chicago Reptile House in Orland Park Ill. has them in stock.
