 Help please

I’ve been looking for a snake that can get around 5,6,7ft long, and my dad’s in denver right now ’cause were moving, and he saw a petstore and checked it out, a lot of stuff, but he said that there was a gopher snake that came with it’s tank and everything forr $100, which i can easily afford. Should i go for that or something else, please help me with what do they eat, some pics, what size tank and what not. Thanks
Taylor

People tend to still do it anyways. I think it’s just better not to start arguing at that person and not make it worse. If it gets way too out of hand, then try to calm them down or argue if it’s the last resort. Many fights get bad ’cause the other person can’t handle a little comment. But you get my point.

Oh I’m sorry. For a second there I forgot I wasn’t just hangin’ out with the guys. We joke around like that and act tough all the time. I’m sorry if that sounded too harsh. I love my gopher they tame down easily and I would encourage any one to get one because they are a LOT of fun. They are a snake that both experts and beginners can enjoy. Gophers aren’t any harder than a corn, milk or king snake. So if you decide to get it you won’t regret it. And $100 for every thing is a really good deal.

No prob, just got to be careful, sometimes you pick with the wrong person and get kicked off the forums. But, you’re forgiven, i do that with my friends all the time. And you guys should check out worldherpafauna.com, no i didn’t mispell it, these guys have awesome prices (note the jungle carpet python for $75, my point completely.)

Getting back on topic a little...how big is the cage and how big is the snake? And, what are they including? For all we know, this furnished cage could be a twenty gallon tank, a water dish, one of those impossible-to-clean log hides, and an old lighbulb. The better the housing, the more faith you can probably have that they’ve been taking care of the animal in other ways too.

I decided that i’m just going to get a ball python. My dad says they feed it large rats and thats too big and expensive for me. Wish me luck on my future snake.

You’ve got to be really anal about having everything just right with ball pythons. Most snakes can handle if the cool end is a little cool or the warm end is a little warm or whatever, they’ll just adjust their habits to thermoegulate differently. If they were that delicate, they’d be dead, because in the wild they just sleep in a leaf pile or something. Ball pythons live in specifically controlled microenvironments that always stay in the 80s, though. Sometimes built by termites, sometimes built by short-haired rats. So having one corner that’s only 75 or whatever can seriously affect their feeding. Once you accept that there are reasons that the people on the BP forums are so crazy about having every single detail absolutely by the book though, the information is certainly out there. I still remember when it was treated as "fact" that they instinctively fast for six months a year to save energy during the dry season. What, do they eat bananas or something? I’m pretty sure birds, rodents, and lizards are available year round in Africa. These days, people are simply regulating the environment better and their snakes are eating every week, just like anything else. Too bad for the early ones that they caught on before herpetoculture was ready for them, but at least the early experimentation has certainly paid off.
I’d rather have the big giant gopher, but the ball python is a more realistic choice for some people. Including me. I have no idea where I’d keep a big giant gopher if I got one right now.
