Hi I am as new as it gets Hows it going. I just found this site. I have a Yellow Colorado bull snake by the name of Donnie. Just read one of the fellow members message about his bull being just about 2 feet in 1 year and I think that is extremely slow. Donnie is wild caught, sad to say, sorry to people who are against it but I saved his life that day (people using him as a scare toy). Had him since he was 18", 5 months ago and now hes about 31". I feed him about 2 adult mice a week and did rats once when he was 2’, fuzzy rats that is, meduim ones. I now feed him mice that I fed pedigree dog food..... big improvement, now he is shedding a week ahead of schedule. Any comments, welcomes, questions...feel free to send my way! How do you get pics on here?

Hi I am as new as it gets
Cool!!!!!! Will he eat pre-killed rodents? The size of the prey item should not exceed the girth of the snake. Bulls are serious eaters, & will grow the more you feed. My pines & bulls eat 1 large rat a week & grow crazy. The larger the enclosure the better. They need a hide box. You can use several inches of bedding (NO PINE OR CEDAR SHAVINGS! NO SAND!) they like to dig & burrow. Keep the tank between 75-85 during the day, 65-70 @ night. Use CareFresh bedding as youre substrate. If you can get him to eat pre-killed food you can start to buy frozen rodents & stop that messy mouse keeping business. Also if the rodent bites the snake then you have a nasty scar.

Hi I am as new as it gets Its me again. Donnie just shed again lastnight and he looks shiney and beautiful. I have been feeding him hopper rats and when he is done with one he looks for seconds. He has grown to 34" since the last time I spoke on here. I would like to know if there is anyway you can tell if the snake has worms and if there is a cure for it, not like Donnie looks like he has them but I want to keep an eye out for it.

Hi I am as new as it gets Once a year (or right away when I get a new animal) I drop off a stool sample at the vet. No appointment is needed or anything. They charge me 16 bucks, the animal doesn’t even need to be bothered going in, and they call me with the results. If a problem actually turns up, some vets won’t actually give you medication unless you bring the animal in, but as long as I can tell them how many grams the animal weighs mine doesn’t have any problem just tossing me the medicine, usually for free. Most of the time if your husbandry is good they’ll come out clean anyway, but it’s worth making sure, not only for those times when they do need a little help but also IMO just for the piece of mind that comes with knowing that they tested out clean.
