 Two Gopher Snakes, same cage?

I have two wild-caught Pacific Gophers... the first we caught nearly a year ago and has done well with us. He’s nearly 2 feet long now. Thanks to those on this board who helped with the ID on another thread here.

Today we caught another of the same species, quite a bit larger than the first. He’s almost 4 feet long, and pretty thick too.

The cage I have is plenty big, even for this new one. Could I keep both in the same cage (assuming I have them probed to make sure they’re not male+female)? Is there a risk the larger would eat the smaller?

im not sure entirely but i would imagine it would be ok. the guy i got my 4’6’’ gopher from had numerous in this long cage. some as big as mine, some were only a foot long. i dont imagine them eating eachother either- their teeth are tiny and snakes but up a bigger fight.

you’ll see LOTS of people that house more than one snake in the same enclosure... but you won’t find anyone up here that actually considers themselves serious keepers that do it. How do you keep your records? Sheds are easy IF you see them... which snake belongs to which urate... which one pooped? if you have a mite problem... they both have mites... if one gets an RI then you have 2 vet bills...would you separate them to feed them? in my opinion... the cons far outweigh the pros... matter of fact... I can’t even think of any pros... snakes only come together to breed.. they are solitary animals

Thanks guys, appreciate the replies. I’ll bite the bullet and get a 2nd enclosure just to be safe and to keep them healthy.
