Incidentally, I used to house two pines together. They semed like they actually liked each other. I mean, honestly, you could even take them both out and put them in different parts of the room and they’d go right over and sniff each other. But there was some kind of territoriality going on. They both ate (seperately!) but the male was a bit shyer about it. Usually he had to be fed in the cage, where he could strike from hiding, whereas the female would eat anywhere, any time, no hesitation. Also, when they both outgrew hoppers/weaners, the female accepted large mice immediately. The male had to be given multiple litle ones for about six months longer. But after six years together, the female died of skin cancer, and once he had the place to himslef the male became much, much bolder. He was even willing to consistantly eat outside the cage, and with less caution than he had formerly shown even inside it. So my hypothesis is that, since one snake is going to be a little less dominant than the other, that one at least would be happier on its own. |
