 Bull Snake?

I just bought this guy, who was listed as a Gopher. I think he might be a Bull, though. Granted, there isn’t much difference, but it would be nice to know.

Any help?

Thanks!

Knox, it should either be a bullsnake (Pituophis catenifer sayi) or if it’s a gopher, a Sonoran Gopher (Pituophis catenifer affinis) The latin name affinis means "neighbouring, allied to, kindred"
Compared to other gopher snakes, sonoran gophers are more Bullsnake like, or vise versa. From what I’ve read that there are slight differences, like he rostral on the Bullsnake is more elongate and prominant. I believe sonorans also have a lower blotch count then bulls. I’ll have to check that out myself, since I do keep both.

Thanks, Steve. I thought it was a Sonoran as well, until I Googled "Bull Snake" and saw more similarities with them than the Sonorans.

If you right click on the pic, copy image address, and post it in the address bar, you can see a larger pic. You might already know this, just wanted to give you the chance to get a better look at him.
