Gopher snake - one cloudy eye

I have 2 gopher snakes, one a juvenile and one an adult that we caught several months ago. Whenever the juvenile sheds, he slows down, doesn’t eat, and both eyes get cloudy. The adult is not moving much the last couple of days, but has only one cloudy eye. Is just one eye clouding up normal, or should I be concerned? Thanks for your help!

No, the other eye is not getting cloudy. The one eye is completely white. She is still eating, though.

I don’t know what it is, but it’s not normal. Somebody asked about the same problem in a bullsnake here a couple of years ago. The eye cleared up, clouded up, over and over, and then the snake died, but I never heard what actually caused it. Some form of bacterila conjuctivitis perhaps? Eye infections are pretty much a surface issue, so it probably wouldn’t grow into too huge of a vet bill to get dealt with professionally. If it were, say, a mouth infection, I’d offer treat-at-home advice. But putting stuff on the eyeball.. I’m not a vet.

At this point I would be concerned... normally they will both cloud up as they approach shed. If you want to do the wait and see method ...make sure the snake has a humid hide to get lots of moisture...damp paper towels ...or substrate will need to be moistened every other day to help the one snake shed ...that’s what we wait for ...a good / proper shed and hopefully any old dead skin will slough off. Leaving the eye cap as good as new again.

I might have skipped over some parts in my rush to read....but is this the way you got / captured the snake? It may be from some other damage ...I hope not. The vets have an ointment for this old stuck shed if that is the case ... it helps to soothe and medicate and loosen the skin so it comes off eventually.
If the damage is not permanent.

I assume me and Jack were posting at the same time if you look at the time stamp .....I would take Jacks advice and have it checked for any infection ....ASAP
