 Urgent... Indigo Snakes

I had seen a Indigo during last summer around this time, a rare find but got away from me.... I really want to go herpin this weekend and take pictures of one in its original habitat!!! the indigo, and any venomous snakes that i can find!!
Does anyone know of a great place to find one in eastern NC. the only thing that i know about finding them is that they are endangered, rarely seen, and live in abandoned gopher tortous burrows or other animal burrows in pine regions.
any info would be awesome. ill post pictures with any luck i have

Not to sound negative or anything, but I highly doubt that anyone will post the names of locations of good Indigo habitat on the Internet for the risk of the info. getting into the wrong hands (people who don’t care about their population and just want to collect them.)

Well, I wish you the best of luck...a wild Indigo is still on my life list as well! :-)

You are right about that Alex. they are a wonderful snake and should not be taken advatage of. many people love the snake but dont respect that they are endagered and just take them home from the wild for they amazing beauty. they are on my list as well, but not worth making them extinct.
I had went out this weekend and i found two of them. took me 4 hours to spot them. i took a bunch of pictures in their habitat, so ill post them up later this week when i get the film developed. i am so happy to have actually seen them at all. i was looking for copperheads, and then i seen one slithering after a mouse across a walking path! the second one i took pictures of looked pretty unhealthy. it was bitten by something. i noticed it while it was curling up under some branches and leaves. the cool thing about this snake that i noticed, was its tail vibrations. it vibrates its tail on top of the leaves as a warning sign like a rattle. it was so cool!!

Holy cow...that is an awesome weekend! I can’t believe you saw two of them!! You have no idea how jealous that makes me.

And yeah other pit vipers, including just about all the Akistrodon (copperheads, cottonmouths, cantils, etc.) will rattle their tails in defense...that’s really cool too.

Well, I’ll definitely be looking forward to some pictures when you get the chance.

(If only I could get so luck one time in south Florida! LOL)

yeah they where beautiful. one was only two feet or so long and the other was near 6ish.

i plan on going out again to see if i cant video one around for a while, and thats saying that i even do see one again. the one i seen last year opened my eyes up for them and have been looking for them since.

one hard species of snake to spot. i have a new black racer in my collection, and i see them everywhere when i go looking for indigos. those racers make me mad because i think that i have an indigo in my sights, then i see the white chin and i want to cry. patience is a virtue i guess.

hey alex, you would not happen to have a care sheet on black racers or know anything about the species would you. have you ever studied one before or have one in you possession??? i hear they are an amazing snake and once they know who feeds it, they will follow you around to get food, haha.
