 Re: Bull or Pine?

I’d check for herp shows in your area; I’m sure they exist, and those are where some really good buys can be found . . . I’m lucky enough to live right in the middle of the Great Basin where P. catenifer desericola is fairly common, but I’m always reluctant to remove a snake from the wild. I got a terrific deal on a Texas Bull two years ago and a little female GB hatchling last year. Plus, right after the show, a couple of the local herp speciality shops picked up some bulls as well and offered them at really reasonable prices.

I know the Northern Pine is found where you live, but those animals are probably really scarce (I’m not sure about legal protection but I hope there is some) and have suffered from nearly 400 years of contact with Europeans who’ve devastated their original habitat. Still, I’ve seen Northern Pines here offered for $100 (probably my next splurge since I love the stark contrast in colors).

 Re: Bull or Pine?

There will probably be a LOT there. Circle around before you check any out closely, so you can scope out different types and prices, as well as staying away from dealers who seem a little shiftier than others. You’ll probably fall in love with the first one you handle, so think about which one you want to handle first.
Here in Ohio, I see bulls, northern pines, and black pines at every show I go to, and there’s usually a few gophers as well.
