1. Run search for local herp vets. Reptiles are generally sold as either a child’s throwaway toy or a stoner’s stereo-top decoration, so herp vet prices are actually more reasonable than you might think, because the market to get rich off just isn’t there. A phone call is free, and if it’s a slow day and they’re in the right mood, you might get some good professional (aka, not me) advice.
2. Remove substrate. Just use paper until the wound is healed. Yes, the snake prefers substrate, and I’m all for going back to it, but right now, paper is not only "good enough" but way, way less infectuous.
3.Order some silver sulfadiazine cream. it’s used for secerely burned humans, and is also what’s been suggested to me by a vet for any scratches or cuts on reptiles. They respond well to it.
4. Meanwhile, use original formula Neopsporin without any of the human-specific painkillers, which reptiles don’t handle the same way we do.
5. Watch her and try to, within the limits of what you’ve gotta do, keep her happy. make up for lack of burrowable substrate with more tubes otr open-ended spaghetti boxes to crawl through. Maybe even feed her a little more than you would have otherwise, because if there’s a speedbump coming and she stops eating from it you’ll be ahead of the game.
