I am fond of her - him - it. It has a docile personality but underneath lies a bad temper if crossed. I soaked him once to get some dead skin off. He didn’t like it one bit. Didn’t bite, but hissed like a steam engine and body slammed my arm. He made it very clear he wasn’t pleased. |

I have a black Mexican King also. It was about 18" when I got it and now is about 30" long. I think they are good feeders and pretty docile. Solid black snakes can be very attractive. |

Our law covers any possession whatsoever. If it lives in Ohio, even if it’s an albino, you’d better have paperwork AND a good lawyer if you plan on openly selling them. The law even applies to red-eared sliders, which aren’t even native to the state, but because there’s some established breeding populations the ODNR decided to count them as native. I did, however, at the show this morning, see some baby white-sided black rats on sale, so at least some people are willing to jump through the legal hoops, and hopefully the state is finally looseining up a little on hardline enforcement. They should be focusing their effort on species that need it, not on ones that are both common in the wild AND usually captive-bred anyway! |

I paid I think about $50-$75 for it. The staff were afraid of it and wanted to get rid of it. As you can see, it is quite docile. |

I feed my frozen, thawed rats and jumbo chicken eggs. Try www.kingsnake.com There are also breeders on the net, or you might just get lucky like me and find one in a local shop. Its amazing what you can find when you look around. |

These state wildlife agencies are run by idiots. I guess it isn’t common in Ohio so they want to prevent collecting. HABITAT destruction is FAR more destructive of populations than limited collecting for personal use. But you don’t expect the politicians to limit construction - that would eat into ratables, besides the construction lobby pays lots of money to politicians. Here in New Jersey its illegal to own a Corn Snake unless it is of a color variety that doesn’t look like a wild specimen. The fact is corns are at the northernmost range in New Jersey and probably were never very common here anyway. Again, there has been tremendous habitat loss here due to farmers being forced to sell out to developers because of economic reasons. |
